Why does my email signature has this warning at the bottom and why should you care about this as you communicate with employees of public institutions in the U.S.? 🧵

Important new study -> OPEN ACCESS! 🚨

Note for the media:

"Misinformation and radical-right populism must hence be under- stood as inextricable and synergistic—two expressions of the same political moment."

Note for public debate:

Misinformation is POLITICAL rather than social media phenomenon!

We're constantly fed a narrative of unlimited numbers of *potential* immigrants.

The truth is, by a long way, most people stay put.
And if they do move, they move within the borders of their country.
And if they do leave, they go next door.
And if policy allows it, they tend to go back again, too.
Most international migrants don't move very far from their home countries.

This chart shows the shortest distance between the borders of origin and destination countries for all international migrants. The top destination is a neighbouring country.

Lots of puzzles to unpack here but not talked about so much is the shift in far right (recall) among young women

Young men increased ~50%
Young women increased ~100% (19v24)

Gender gap remains (larger in consid. set) but trend is clear: rising far-right support among both young men & women
New Gender Update out in @ejpgjournal.bsky.social. With data from the new wave of the EES, I show a strong increase in support for the far right among young voters. Especially the share of young men who consider voting for the far right has exploded.

Just because you've not heard so much about fish as an issue in UK-EU relations, doesn't mean it's going to be easy to manage

The TCA's transitional system bought some time, but 2026 puts most fisheries cooperation back on the table
🚨🚨 🐟🦈 again! As always impeccable reporting by @pmdfoster.bsky.social and @andybounds.bsky.social on the very unsurprising demand by the EU for extended fishing rights (the other key one is youth mobility) in order for UK-EU reset to move further. #Brexit 🧵

I was invited to speak about the upcoming Trump era and share some lessons and optimism. I declined politely. After more than 25 years of researching the far right, I have no more (new) lessons and optimism to share.
