I’m a grumpy old man but sometimes I’m just old.
I have opinions, but I do listen.
🇨🇦 Hasn’t had a viable energy plan/policy since Mulroney torched the NEP 40+yrs ago.
Why is that significant?
Energy policy should provide a roadmap to energy security, sustainability, and economic & social wellbeing.
Hard to take seriously a govt navigating through the energy minefield without one.

Canada tops list for young American women who want to leave US.
40% would like to leave. That’s a stunning indictment of today’s American values.

Canada tops list for young American women who want to leave US
A record number of younger American women now say they want to leave the United States — and their most common destination of choice is Canada. Those findings come from a new Gallup poll that says 40 ...

INFLUENCER:
“a person who’s able to generate interest in something [consumer product] by posting about it on social media” — Webster.
Mmm, completely unregulated purveyors of Snake-oil.
Putting these people on pedestals with no accountability seems reckless or @ very least, naïve.
What do you think?

Dear @AndrewScheer: Resign, sir. Your Tweet to Rachel Gilmore is a Disgrace

@atRachelGilmore says you put a target on her back re. her Charlie Kirk tweet.

I agree.

Your action is unacceptable from a Member of Parliament.

@PierrePoilievre, fire him.

Rise in extremism threatens everyone.

But, data points to rightwing extremism as greatest threat..

Ironically, American conservatives who believe that 2nd amendment right to guns is worth the cost in lives lost, seem only to be outraged when one of their own becomes a victim..

Hypocrisy is ugly.

Can someone with knowledge of the relevant American law explain the impact of this morning’s ruling that trump has violated the principle of posse comitatus that restricts the military from being used for domestic law enforcement?
Does this make the orders to soldiers to do so, unlawful?

Trump’s supporters are in denial.
They’re immunized against logic and facts and will never admit that they have become cultists.
Trump walked away empty handed after giving Putin a series of gifts. Putin said the underlaying conditions for the war need to be addressed to achieve peace. Those conditions are ending Ukraine’s sovereignty/ movement towards Europe. I see some harsh terms being proposed to Ukraine. Trump’s a loser.
August 30, 2025 at 8:13 PM
Despite his professed anger, trump has taken no steps to hold Putin to account for war crimes he’s committing daily in Ukraine.
It’s also evident that those who still support him are ok with that.
Fixing lethal agenda of Trump’s boy Miller, a latter day Rasputin, will require Dems with >backbone.🤷🏼‍♂️

Oh dear! If Putin had given Trump a single concession, he would be the first to trumpet the fact to the press corps in Anchorage.

His “ru ru ru hoax” reference makes it clear he’s still worried about the perception he is the junior player in the RU - US relationship.

A sad day for USA..

On a train in UK in 80s, a backpacker took a seat facing me. Seeing the Cdn Flag on her backpack I told her I was from Canada as well, & asked her what part she was from.
Turning bright red she stammered, actually I’m an American.
Seeing her embarrassment I said, we Cdns take that as a complement.

Max Fawcett is probably the most articulate and intelligent journalist that Canada has seen in the last 50 years.
His writing make a subscription to National Observer a must for Cdns weary of growing right-leaning news organizations owned by US hedge funds.

'annex' is such a cute word.

Invade. Spend your military funds, killing Canadians.

That's what you're talking about. If you're unclear, check some lists about how many Ukrainians Putin murdered, invading their nation.

Watch for Dominic LeBlanc to be interim leader covering fire for his friend’s “tactical withdrawal.”

Poilievre, giddy with overconfidence is already squandering the moment, LeBlanc will deliver the ordinance that will shred his PM’s aspirations.

This will be one for the history books.

Will PM Pierre actually have free range to run things? Did Harper hand the reins to this successor or did he use his IDU connections to install a puppet?

I suspect the foreign interference report will answer that question..

Trudeau proves his critics right as he dumps 2 of his best ministers.
Can it get any worse for the party?

He should’ve dumped whoever is responsible for cheques & dumb tax move.
A mutiny in ..3 ..2 ..1.

Chrystia Freeland resigns, clearly on principle.

PMJT courting Carney Pfft!

Few outside CPC believe trudeau would actively organize for or anoint a successor.
That maybe what Harper did for PP from his perch at IDU(with his buddy MODI et al).
But if trudeau leaves, who believes he’d want to be seen stooping as low as harper for a new LPC leader?

Lest we forget how Harper tenderized Canada for trump & the MAGA movement. Poilievre was his loyal disciple.

Watching your show from Canada. Thank you for your thoughtful take on US politics.
But threat posed to us by your incoming pres makes me wonder if we will ever again rely on mutual respect and shared values as basis for our contries’ friendship.
I sincerely hope we can.
November 26, 2024 at 12:01 PM
I hope Canadians are motivated to be more involved in our politics.
Stephen Harper offered his support to Mr. Trump last week as did other members of the right wing bullies club, the IDU. Poilievre takes his inspiration and, likely, his orders, from Harper, Modi & Orban.
Surely Canada can do better.

With leg in recess, it’s relatively easy for Mr. Higgs to do spin control of crisis in our hospitals.
We understand this crisis has been developing for a while, but the premier’s handling of it has made it much worse. As we near 1,000 covid deaths in NB, isn’t it time to recall the legislature?

New Brunswick Hospitals are in crisis with sick left on stretchers in corridors the rest being told to go home unless they’re in a life-threatening crisis.
Ambulances are unable to offload patients & ER staff are beyond exhaustion.
Where is our awol Premier Higgs?
Hiding… hiding…
