Just read in an interview with Rei Kawakubo that the 2018AW Homme Plus show was put together start to finish in 2 months.

The dinosaur heads (by artist Shimoda Masakatsu) was put into the show at the last minute because Rei didn't feel like the looks were strong enough on their own.

Nobody asked, but here's my notebook for how I research and write for my Lemaire videos. It takes way more time than I'd like.

Anyways the next video is extra spicy, and it'll be on why Lemaire doesn't follow trends. It will be out this week or early next week.

Been working on the next video which will be on why Lemaire doesn't follow trends. In the meantime have this rare Yohji editorial from the book All About Yohji Yamamoto.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you're still buying bag charms in the face of this image you need to reconsider your life choices.

Rei Kawakubo's still dressing fearlessly at 82 years old. Wear your freedom! #fashionsky

A lot of people think LVMH prize winner Soshiotsuki is just a styling exercise, lacks substance, etc.

As someone who's been following them before they won, Soshiotsuki is legit. They're a love letter to Showa-era Japan, you won't get the references if you don't know the history. #fashionsky

When I saw the quilted coats and jackets in YYPH FW25 I thought they were hideous. They looked like 1930s starving farmer wear.

But seeing Yohji's shop staff wear it I'm having that magical moment where it clicks and I go from hate to love. There's a certain power and charm in the details.

New eYe Junya Watanabe x Brooks Brothers FW25 collab looking absolutely insane. A freaking blazer/MA1 hybrid. Menswear nerds gonna lose their minds over this. #fashionsky

Fetico by Emi Funayama. One of the rare brands in Japan to do body-conscious looks. The clothes are revealing but have a provocative edge. Some of it feels inspired by Islam. 3/

Viviano by Viviano Sue. A hot brand in Japan right now known for his heavy use of tulle. Some of his work reminds me of CdG and a bit of mori-kei subculture. He also started a mens line this year. 2/

Starting with Harunobumurata by the eponymous designer, who cut his teeth at LV and Jil Sander. He has an Italian vision of luxury that shines through his fabric choices, but this season has more playfulness with the fringe, sheer and denim. 1/

With Tokyo Fashion Week SS26 (best FW imo) coming to a wrap, thought I'd do a roundup of all the collections I liked with a short blurb about each designer. Thread 🧵

Yohji subverts traditional expectations by using a variety of western fabrics, such as these colorful looks in layered jersey knit with a curling hem. 2/

Yohji Yamamoto 1994FW "The Kimono Show"

One of his most career-defining shows, where he lifted a taboo he placed on himself 10 years ago. Breakign from his predecessors Kenzo Takada and Hanae Mori, Yohji reinterprets the Kimono, removing any hint of Asian fetishism. 1/🧵

Tokyo Fashion Week is the only fashion week worth watching, and SS26 is kicking off with mukcyen by Yuka Kimura.

The creative vision is stunning and clear. Kimura won the JFW Next Brand Award; watch out for this brand as they're blowing up within Japan. 1/

The collection theme is "Blood Moon", Kimura explains it means "the fear of the future, how to live in the limited time we have now, and what attire one might choose to face whatever is to come."

Fashion news from across the pond:
Harunobu Murata is the new creative director of PLST, a Uniqlo-owned brand.

Murata (ex-Jil Sander) is a regular at Tokyo Fashion Week for his own brand. There's a lot of flair in his debut collection for PLST, hoping it makes it to Uniqlos across the sea.

On Japanese designers' relationships to art

Do you remember? In 1982, Artforum‘s cover featured Issey Miyake’s work using a rattan bodice and polyester. I think that was the first time a fashion piece graced the cover of an art magazine.

I remember newspapers condemning it, asking “Motorcycles, now Armani? Did he buy the exhibition?”

On Yves Saint Laurent's '83 Met exhibition:

The 1983 exhibition received terrible reviews. Many people in the industry were terrified by this reaction. Dealing with living designers in museums was seen as too commercial.

I really believe the reason why he's so successful today is because he refused to play the fashion game. This is ultimately why I think he's the modern successor to Yohji Yamamoto.

This four-pocket jacket from SS25 is based on the US general issue Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) blouse. They both share four pockets with square flaps and a placket covering all buttons but the top one. 3/

The Lemaire wrap coat is (likely) based on this Soviet WW2 greatcoat. The color and wrap-around front are signals of its origin.

Lemaire's version adds patch pockets and visible buttons. It is possible that it could be based on a different military coat from the same era. 2/
