UK budget freeze on income tax thresholds

Over the next 5 yrs, 780,000 more people, the poorest, will pay income tax for the first time.

Someone earning £50,000 will pay £9,512 in tax, an increase of £1,247 because thresholds are frozen.

Can't grow economy by hitting low/middle income earners.
The government’s budget is simply managing decline
The budget does little to improve living standards or facilitate sustained economic growth

Why the "tetchiness" in MPs as they defend the budget?

It’s unbelievable that hard-working families in Newcastle North pay more council tax than Mayfair’s multi-millionaires.

That’s why I called on the Treasury to go further on council tax reform in my Budget response👇

Interesting refutation of the "welfare budget" narrative that's been doing the rounds!

✴️Overall spending as % of GDP will remain flat 2024-2031
✴️£3bn was spent on new policies NOT £10bn
✴️Uprating benefits by inflation is standard practice every year

The #Budget2025’s extended freeze on tax thresholds means from April 2028 people will pay more in these taxes than they otherwise would have.

So our Government Tracker’s now rating Labour’s pledge to “not increase taxes on working people” as ‘Not kept’.
Has the government kept its pledge not to increase taxes on ‘working people’? – Full Fact
Full Fact looks at Labour’s manifesto commitment on taxation, which has led to much debate over the meaning of the phrase ‘working people’.

It’s vital we decarbonise home heating. Heat pumps are one great option, but not right for every home.

The Government must back other technologies, like Luthmore’s zero-emission boiler, with the same support like VAT exemption & grant funding.

We need a range of green technology to cut emissions.
Government must level the playing field for the clean heat industry – or risk leaving UK homes out in the cold
