Restoration work to this Victorian 1880 porch. Sod of a job and very hard to stay within and keep the aesthetic. A way to go yet with some detailing to add to bring it in line. But the rot is all gone and bottom boards and lattice repairs next week.

The bourgeoise Capel Tegid in Bala built in 1866 for £4k. This Calvinist Methodist Capel with its copper spire that caused outrage, was a divergence from previous religious asceticism. Membership here was a status symbol and cemented Bala’s reputation as a Welsh spiritual centre.

No trip to Bala is complete without a trip to TJ Roberts the butchers. Sad to see that the 1 1/4 pound pork pies have been hit by inflationary pressure and now cost 25p more at £2.50 each. 🥧 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

In April after Russia invaded i helped run a series of coffee mornings for Ukrainian refugees. A girl from Odessa, clearly deeply traumatised and withdrawn took part in an art session and painted this picture.

She returned later that year when the front stabilised.

Sending all the thoughts. 🇺🇦

We need to record and research the history of lime finishes in upland Eryri quarry landscapes before it’s all gone. Hen gapel chwarel Rhosydd a Chwmorthin.

This is very unusual. Likely recycled from elsewhere. My initial thought was the round drilled holes were to start the mortice which when chiseled out then received a square post. But why over drill each one to such a depth. No carpenter likes to drill holes in oak deeper than necessary!!

Maybe. But spiritually.

Maximum wave height of nearly 60ft and average wave heights of 41 feet according to data from the m3 buoy off the coast of Cork. And could get bigger!

Tiled the bathroom in the cottage with old Ynys Mön tiles from the north of the island. Wonderful textures and colours. All rather random in sizes and thickness with a fair few with one ear cocked! An art to not try too hard but go with ride.! St Astier hydraulic lime grout next.

For Marx the ‘crisis of capitalism’ comes through internal contradictions.

Contemporary capitalist fascism is weak because its financial model of ‘rage farming’ relies on ever giddy heights of hubris and outrage which develop inherent instabilities.

In a triumph of British 🇬🇧 Engineering I have replaced the arm on my boots glasses (broken and ‘irreparable’) with the one from my Home Bargains glasses.

You’re very welcome.
