The really cool thing about trying to finish this PhD while out of academia is realizing the things I thought mattered most don’t at all.
And yet, the reason I did this in the first place has only been re-affirmed 100x. It’s taking me eons to finish, (which is hard) but that’s also ok now.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition has confirmed that the volunteers aboard the Madleen have been kidnapped by Israeli forces.

The crew of the Madleen deserves all of our love and solidarity. They knew they were on a dangerous path, but also understood the necessity of trying. The siege of Gaza must end, aid must be delivered, and the crew of the Madleen must be freed.

Being a historian makes times like this scary.
But being a historian right now also gives me an immense amount of hope, because despite all the rhetoric out there suggesting otherwise, nothing is, or has ever been, inevitable.
We don’t have to accept this.
We can make new worlds together.
