It's pretty standard in the NYC/Boston area too, IMO. The roving gangs of suburban kids--regardless of gender--seem to use it a lot as well.

I went to college and lived in the South for years. Still, I think my most formative exposure to y'all was Fresh Prince of Bel Air, specifically Will Smith's use of it made it seem cool 😎

Most definitely, it's of a lexicon of a diminishing regional dialect (along with the more Pennsylvanian yinz).

Back in my linguistics studies days, we talked a lot about the tendency of language (to converge on certain terms) as influenced by pop (youth) culture, media, and sheer exposure.
