Spent 12 hours in the mountains today, then got treated to the Northern Lights tonight. Not bad.

It’s like, there’s fascism here but also there are places like New Mexico that exist.

Happy to share my new personal website! I'm available for speaking engagements, esp. related to my academic and post-ac career trajectory as a humanities/social science scholar working in national lab and policy spaces, possibly of interest to grad students/ECRs.

Get in touch!

Abbey soaking in the North Fork of the Blackfoot River somewhere in the Scapegoat Wilderness. At 11, these hikes aren’t as easy as they used to be, but she was a trooper.

Back from a week in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Hiked through burn areas with a ton of regenerative growth, caught a ton of fish, talked to outfitters and pack rafters, was haunted by a grizzly, and heard charred trees fall in the night during a storm (spooky). Didn’t want to leave.

Rowed 60 miles over 4 days, caught four species of fish, saw moose, eagles, deer, beaver, and a rattlesnake swimming across the river (!!) and desperately want to go back out tomorrow despite sore shoulders.

Getting flies in order for a 4-day backcountry raft trip - the fabled Smith River in Montana. Hoping flows hold up; climate change has meant accelerated runoff. If we can’t launch, our backup plan is a day on the Blackfoot, two days on the Big Hole, fourth day TBD. Should just be a trout bum tbh.

Second time on the river over the last three days. Happy to be in a river town.

Went to the Phillies-Rockies game at Coors Field. Like a home game at the Bank. Eagles chants broke out, several Utley and Schmidt jerseys sighted. Harper and Turner went back to back. Forgot about the shit we are in for a few hours. Important, I think.
