When I (Ryan) think about all the money Autism Speaks rakes in while Autistic-led organizations like ours fight for scraps, I feel justice sensitivity roil through me body and mind. I feel the injustice out to my nerve endings and to the depth and breadth a soul can take.
Autism $peaks is the largest and most popular Autism organization (among allistics), who continues to be 100% in support of ABA. They have lobbyists who push ABA as the “gold standard Autism treatment.” It utilizes same practices as “conversion therapy,” which is currently banned in 28 countries.

Saving this thread for later. Expecting to have to participate in an empathy exercise in the near future and this framing makes a ton of sense.
If you look at the theory that aggrieved entitlement and destabilizing events are potential precursors to adopting more authoritarian and/or fascistic politics, it is not surprising that autism/IDD parent communities frequently look towards the political right, including fascist politics.
