Exciting news I can finally spill! My next middle-grade novel, The Swimming Pigs of Licorice Springs, will be published by Knopf in Spring 2027. (Which in book-writing years is like ten minutes from now. I'd better get busy!)

Gosh! So exciting to see it in print! Thanks, Tanita!!

It is an absolute honor to be one of the women whose stories Shannon included in her book. Her (free!!!) Firestarter University program is going to be incredible. Time to get your blazing spark on!
I’m so grateful to the hundreds of you who have already signed up for Firestarter University, a yearlong course based on my upcoming book, “Fired Up.” The program is free when you preorder my book and register your purchase at firedupbook.com

i wonder if people under a certain age know how much limitless free information used to be readily available online about anything you could think of, anything at all, you could start reading about a niche subject and then it would be 4 am and you had been reading about weird candy for six hours

Randomly remembering the Television Without Pity E.R. recapper who had a phobia about eyeballs & subbed "toes" anytime eye injuries were a plot point

You know you can review a book literally any time, right? It doesn't have to be a new book. Someone sees a book for the first time from your review: BOOM! It's a new book. That's a special kind of temporal magic.

Okay. Whew. What with our move and my writing deadlines, I've been buried, slammed, flattened for months (and almost totally dormant on social media). Finally, finally coming up for air. What did I miss? (dies laughing)

If the creative person you're thinking about doesn't have their name in extremely large type on a poster or billboard, take what you assume they make, halve it, halve it again, and then halve it a couple more times just to be sure. That amount? Probably still more than they are actually making.
A reminder that just because someone works regularly in the entertainment industry, that doesn't mean they are rich by any reasonable measure. Many writers of your favorite shows and actors in your favorite TV and films live hand to mouth.

That is who we are fighting for.

Coming up on 96 hours and my arm still looks like a strip of button candy
How long after allergy scratch testing does it take for the welts to go down? Asking for an extremely itchy upper arm 48 hours out

I mean I'll remember the error for the rest of my life but
Friends, be happy for me, big day: I did not follow a reply in which I made a small and easily decipherable typo with an asterisked correction

Well this is a new one. Something (or someone? *shudder*) has taken the tubing from our backyard bird fountain. It was there yesterday. The pump is still running but the tube & the little clips that fastened it to the fountain have just...vanished.

a blue sky tip for new people from twitter

on twitter if u reply to yourself to create a thread each post shows up as a new post

on blue sky if u reply to yourself nobody sees it without reading the first one until enough people like it which is difficult if no one sees it in the first place

Realizing an absolute A+++ factor of this site: I don't have to see the name of a beloved public figure trending & wonder if it means they:
a) died;
b) did something egregious; or
c) just wore clothes somewhere

I have never been more invested in a narrative in my LIFE
ok so what happened was.

in 2018, California passed prop 12, which required that pigs, chickens, and cattle all get a certain amount of space to move around. the chicken and cattle industries complied. the pork industry, however, was like "no we need to cram the pigs in cages" and sued to stop it.
Is there any chance we could get a thread on Rufus? I need more pics and more background information on this furry drunkard.
