Emmy-nominated reporter. Russia Today called me “notorious,” China kicked me out. Formerly Asia, Doha, California, more 🌏. Author of graphic novel YOU MUST TAKE PART IN REVOLUTION out now!
From a frigid but wonderful time in London to a perfectly sunny Miami, I've happily accumulated and hauled around signed copies of these books which I am so excited to bring back home to Berlin.

Happy publication day to HYBRED, by Jamie Mustard and Francesca Filomena! @badiucao.bsky.social and I were so honored to be asked to read it and blurb it! We love this graphic novel. Congratulations to all!

So great to see our book mentioned in this @publisherswkly.bsky.social article looking at publishers who support marginalized voices! 🔗 READ: bit.ly/pw-indie-revolution

At the Berlin Freedom Conference marking the fall of the Berlin Wall, @badiucao.bsky.social and I shared thoughts on the intersections of journalism, art, and activism — and how global Gen Z are making their voices heard. Thank you to the City of Berlin! Fight fascism! 📸 By Mo Wuestenhagen / © BFC

YOU MUST TAKE PART IN REVOLUTION is fiction — but a lot of nerdy research went into it, including drawing on serious war games scenarios, as I explain in this clip from our Literaturhaus Berlin talk! 📺 WATCH: bit.ly/libe-revolution

Thank you to Literaturhaus for hosting our Berlin book talk, moderated so memorably by Jakob Scherer! All part of the city’s official Berlin Freedom Week. Thank you to everyone who came out! What an incredible night! Fight fascism! 📺 WATCH: bit.ly/libe-revolution

Tomorrow is a big day for us in Berlin. @badiucao.bsky.social and I speak right after a speech by the former president of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen! 😮 And in the evening — we have our first book talk in Berlin. 💛 For good vibes, here's a photo from our event in February in Taipei. What a year it's been.

I love Skylight Books in Los Angeles and this was my book haul last time I was there: Kaveh Akbar's MARTYR! and Nicole Wong's MAHJONG, which is a how-to guide. Go read some books, people! 🌱 Social media can be fun but unplug a bit and touch grass! Read and play mahjong!

🇩🇪 Berlin! YOU MUST TAKE PART IN REVOLUTION comes to Germany — the anniversary week of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Come say hi to @badiucao.bsky.social and me at Literaturhaus this coming Monday, 10th November. 🔗 bit.ly/li-be-revolution

🌴 In good company at the Miami Book Fair! Florida needs some good trouble. 😉 I'm looking forward to José Zamora leading our conversation — a great free speech and free press advocate. Come say hi 11/23!

I love the reflections from readers who run book and comic blogs. This one is from Sean Kleefeld of Kleefeld on Comics — another one I missed but am so glad to find now. 🥹

The world is incredibly messy right now, and @mcfaulmike.bsky.social's new book is the best read I've come across, helping make sense of where we are in the context of history. In later chapters, he offers a vision for the future. Congratulations on publication day. This is an important book.

👀 SCOOP: Art crimes detective Arthur Brand tells us he's just recovered a work stolen by the Nazis — and it's in his Amsterdam apartment right behind the mystery door!* Amelie Ebbinghaus of the Art Loss Register (world's largest private database of stolen art with 700K+ items) is clearly intrigued!

Literally the first book I grabbed when I decided during COVID lockdown to work on a graphic novel. The original idea was a 24-page Kickstarter comic with @badiucao.bsky.social. YOU MUST TAKE PART IN REVOLUTION became a 264-page behemoth. I learned so much from Scott McCloud's UNDERSTANDING COMICS.

How cool to see Yellow Peril Books carrying YOU MUST TAKE PART IN REVOLUTION! The bookshop curates Asian American lit. I'm an American from Hong Kong and Taiwan; @badiucao.bsky.social is from Shanghai, now in Australia. Ours is a transnational diasporic Asian project. We couldn't be prouder!

Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi says she'll nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The Cambodian PM had said the same a few days ago. Trump must be as pleased as a fox in a henhouse but this is pretty embarrassing, Dear Leader stuff. 📸 REUTERS/Evelyn Hockstein

🇨🇿🇺🇦 More Czech media coverage of our book talk and the festival — including on Ukrainian author Sofia Andrukhovych, pictured in the piece. It was an honor to meet her! I'm excited about the forthcoming English translation of her novel AMADOKA which will be out next year from Simon & Schuster.

Checked out for the first time the music of Emilie Mayer, a woman and composer from the 19th century. It’s great to see more women put in programming compared to just a few years ago. Performed by Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin at Pierre Boulez Saal.

My local Berlin library has an art installation in response to the book bans in the US — empty shelves engraved with the first lines of banned books. Plus bookmarks and a table showing books banned from schools / libraries in the US.

🇨🇿🇪🇸 Anyone visiting Prague should definitely stop by the Miquel Barceló exhibition at DOX Centre for Contemporary Art. It's incredible. Many journalists know Barceló from his breathtaking ceiling in the Human Rights Council hall at the United Nations in Geneva.
