"First, Trump targeted illegal immigrants. Then he went after legal immigrants. Now, he’s attacking naturalized Americans, citizens who were born elsewhere...He’s trying to turn white against nonwhite Americans...The U.S. government now openly stands for bigotry."

Now Trump Is Threatening Naturalized Americans
He’s not just bashing refugees and illegal immigrants. He’s going after U.S. citizens born in other countries.

Reminder: the House recess isn't because of the budget, the House adjourned before the shutdown because the GOP doesn't want to hold a vote to release government files on a pedophile because everyone knows those files implicate Trump. Republicans are doing this to protect their pedophile President.
Trump's mechanism to pay the troops during the shutdown is by far the most illegal budgetary action he's taken as POTUS, potentially setting the stage to break everything.

It's also needless because Congress would easily pass a troop pay bill if Johnson were willing to gavel in.

Long thread.

The Trump administration wants us to believe that they are all-powerful forces who control everything and can be reined in by neither Congress nor the Supreme Court, but if anything goes wrong, it's Mastermind Chuck Schumer's fault.
BRENNAN: CBS confirmed the Trump administration rescinded the layoffs of CDC scientists. Some were involved with the federal measles response. How does a mistake like this happen?

VANCE: The govt shutdown inevitably leads to some chaos. It happened because of Schumer

B: But this was a WH decision

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

We’re not dealing with brilliant strategists cleverly laying traps, we’re dealing with impulsive whiners whose advantage is contempt for laws, norms, and morality.

They’re not pulling some elaborate trick, they’re just willing—even eager—to do things regular, principled people consider off limits.

When you recall that political reporters ran interference for Trump over his "opposition" to Project 2025, remember that even AT THAT TIME there was a hidden camera interview with Vought where he said that was bullshit and he didn't mean it. www.mediamatters.org/russ-vought/...
In undercover interview, Project 2025 architect gets candid on the initiative’s radical goals and connections to Trump

Priztker: if federal agents fired upon journalists and protesters, when unprovoked, what would we call it?

I don't think we'd have any trouble calling it what it is. Authoritarianism.

So let's not pretend it's something else when it happens in our American cities.

A rational political actor, seeing weak jobs numbers, would start to worry about the economy and rethink their policy strategy. But Trump is so media-obsessed that he sees the primary threat from weak jobs numbers is bad news cycles on CNBC and not that unemployed workers would vote against him

I used to think that “Trump thinks asylum means people came from insane asylums” was an uncharitable and argumentative interpretation, but it gets increasingly hard to avoid that conclusion.

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?

GOP U.S. Supreme Court in June 2023 ruled that using race as a factor in college admissions is unconstitutional. BUT today they ruled ICE can use race as a factor when detaining people. To sum up: the GOP Justices ban considering race when it can help people but allow ICE to use it to deport people

The greatest and most significant consequence of Trump being elected president has been his ability to reform the Supreme Court in his image with enough democracy destroying acolytes. No other consequence comes close because they all flow from being able to remove that check/guardrail.
#SCOTUS all-but overruled a unanimous, 90-year-old precedent through an unexplained "administrative" stay this morning, and that's only the second-most-problematic thing it did before lunchtime.

the maga constitution doesn’t allow any institution, public or private, to explicitly work to ameliorate racial inequality but allows the government to racially profile
BREAKING: By an apparent 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court halts an injunction that had prevented immigration agents from racially profiling Latinos in central California.

Sotomayor, dissenting, says the decision is "unconscionably irreconcilable with our nation's constitutional guarantees."

So Mike Johnson claims that when he said that Trump was an FBI informant who participated in or helped with information which 'took Epstein down' he was actually speaking loosely and meant that Trump had talked to one of Epstein's victim's lawyers? Pretty much the same, right? What a joke.

In any other administration (including Trump's first one), someone in the Pentagon would have said: "Mr. President, you cannot order the military to murder a bunch of people on a boat on the high seas."
Designating them "narco-terrorists" isn't a thing that lets you do that.

RFK Jr. rolled out that old chestnut again about how healthy Americans were in the 60’s, so here’s a fact check.

In 1965:

-42% of American adults smoked; it’s 11% now.

-The infant morality rate was 24.7/1000; it’s 5.6/1000 now.

-Overall life expectancy was 70 years; it's about 77 years now.
