I took a hike to Kiso River yesterday, and crossing that river took me back to Aichi. ☺️ There’s a red bridge across the river there, and I used to take that train up and down the track every day for years.

Achievement Unlocked: Hair of My Teenage Dreams I decided to quickly throw an updated photo together, meme style with minimal editing. After about two and a half years of growing out my hair, the hair of my teenage dreams is finally here!

I decided to do a photo update in a meme style collage with minimal editing. Starting from 10:00 and 12:00- these are selfies that I took on a local train. At 1:00 is a shot of Scott Moffatt from the Chapter 1: A New Beginning photoshoot (1999), followed by a group photo of The Moffatts. At 5:00 and 7:00 are two selfies that I took in front of Nagoya Station as a to show my updated look. I have my bleached bangs touched up and trimmed, and I dyed the rest of my hair another shade of brown that is closer to my natural colour. At 6:00 and 8:00 are a 2018 reunion group shot of the Moffatts taken in a vehicle, and a classic shot of Scott Moffatt from 1998, around the time of YTV's PsykoBlast.

How many items do you recognise?
This folder contains a small collection of Pan Am items. A magazine advertisement, playing cards, and a patch. Below that is a postcard from the Paper Seahorse. It reads, "get your analog on." in green text over a classic black rotary landline phone. Opening the box to see a lot of packages of Crayola crayons, Dove deodorant, and Juicy Fruit gum! I also see something made from denim. Opened the box a little more to see the playing cards, Pan Am patch, and a stylized Canadian flag? The stylized Canadian flag is a ROOTS t-shirt, and to the left is a ROOTS denim bag. Behind that is a classic SNOW WOOD hoodie from Fangamer.

Overdue update!

I documented some of my deep dives on YTV & in music. It’s embarrassing to admit it took me this long to catch the reference to Plumtree in Scott Pilgrim. I missed the memo, apparently!

This is the inside cover spread. I used packaging from Taiyaki as part of the main design, and assorted paper cutouts. This also included the label from the turquoise insert packaging, and the B-Sides and Rarities label from the washable paper insert. The notebook is surrounded by assorted pens I used for journaling. It is held down flat with a red stapler and a clip. There is a lot here that may not fit in the space of this description! AMAZING GRACE Featured song on today's episode. Sierra sings it for a commercial audition. "JOHNNY, YOU'VE ONLY BEEN GONE FOR TWELVE HOURS, BUT WELCOME BACK." We see more drama in this episode, mainly at the hands of Johnny, who is the guitarist of the band - because he kept bossing around his friends/bandmates. He didn't like Sierra shooting a commercial outside of band obligations. He was also trying to get the girls in the band to dress in dresses for their gig. The whole situation led to a falling out. But they were able to resolve it quickly. Below this summary is decorated with washi style stickers in a café setting with donuts. The vertical text reads, Catwalk, the title of the show. The next section is separated with torn green pape, assorted markers, and some stickers. Wednesday, March 13, 2024~ Today was a stay in day as I nursed my cold. I periodically worked on the video for the Tokyo 2023... As expected, the character limit prevented me from transcribing my journal in its entirety. So, I will have to summarize from here on out. The previous page spread went on to talk about my deep dive on r/ytvretro, and learning about the Plumtree appearance on The Breakfast Zone. This discussion continues into the current page spread here. I painted The Beakfast Zone logo with acryla gouache, and I embellished the pages with more stickers and paper from 100 yen shops. I made a doodle of Scott Pilgrim to accompany the journalling. I go on to talk about how I didn't watch much of The Breakfast Zone because the time clashed with school in the mornings. I usually only got to see the program during sick days home from school, or during three day weekends from what I can recall. This last page spread continues the discussion about life during the 90s and 2000s, decorated wiith markers, stickers, and washi tape. The washi tape features assorted foods limited to Aichi. The above section talks about breakfast in Japan, and I painted the local ogura toast in acryla gouache. I used other 100 yen stickers to complete the layout.

The overall theme for this month is green for St. Patrick's Day, but it was really hard to find any clover stickers in the shops.

This is the craft insert from my Traveler's Notebook. I stamped the calendar on green paper to cover a mistake on the original calendar I made. To the side of the TN sit an array of pens: Ninipie pens, Dicot pens, Hybrid pens, and Kokuyo Mark+ pens. My Super Labor pouch is customized to feature the Music Travel Love logo, next to Mister Donut coffee and donuts. Classic honey glazed, and the pon-de-ring, and a black coffee. Aside from the calendar, the displayed pages are empty. The custom vertical calendar insert is turned over to show off the new green kraft insert. It is inspired by Nirvana's Nevermind, and Kurt Cobain's unique style of collaging. The back insert is turned to show the back. I've utalized the Traveler's Factory bag that reats "Have a nice trip" with the iconic Mount Fuji logo. The green craft paper I use for collaging later is seen in the back.

Playing with children's construction paper to make baby versions of Kurt Cobain's iconic In Utero sonic blue mustang. I painted the pick guard to reflect the real life version, and I also tried painting another paper guitar as a throwback to the water theme from Nevermind. I made a multimedia painting as the background, utalizing junk mail and acryla gouache. I used Kurt's art collection as reference to make something close to what he might have made if he was still here today. This project taught me that it usually isn't possible to bring two very different styles together. I have a kindergarten cutout style version of Kurt holding the plain guitar with the painted one off on the bottom. Rearranging the guitars on the image, removing the Kurt Cobain caricature. The painting itself features stargazing lilies against a beige background with streaks of blue. Among the junk mail I received was a fake bank note. I hate deceptive advertising like this because it makes you think you have cold hard cash at your disposal, but it isn't. I think Kurt would have been upset by it too. I will first to admit that my attention has been divided in a bunch of places this month. Last week, #KurtCobain would have been 57 years old, and I was working on some fanart in remembrance of him when I wasn't rocking out to Nirvana on guitar. I think I will post the write up about this piece in the comments in order to keep this update concise and on topic. Next, I have attached some previews of a project that I have been working on this afternoon. Specifically, I am currently working on some intro and outro sequences for my videos to help pull my channel together. It's ridiculous how many layers I need to complete this project! But you see why in time. The original Tokyo vlog is coming! Once that video posts, I will be returning to the hands on art, which is the roots of how this channel started...

Did any other Canadian millennials participate in the YTV Achievement Awards? What did you submit? Did you get featured on the show? 26 years onward, I can't remember what I submitted. I didn't have the foresight at the time to retain copies of what I turned in.
This is a scan of a participation certificate and rejection letter that I received from submitting my art to the event. The art style is iconic of the 90s, featuring a speech bubble and a blue "YAA!" predominately displayed in the logo. Underneath reads, "YTV Achievement Awards" in white text on red. This is a pastel painting of a "house hippo" eating melon bread, a common breakfast people will have in Japan while in a rush during the mornings. I drew the hippo in a Showa style kitchen with blue tiles and hanging pots and pans int he background. A bottle of dish soap is also visible in the illustration.

Pastel painting of Shin-Maiko Fine Beach at sundown. I used acryla gouache to add the highlight detailing of the water ripples. Use of lemon yellow is heavy in this image with more blues towards the edges. Shin-Maiko Fine Beach earlier in the day with the sun higher in the sky. Blue is more prominent in this painting. Once again, I used acryla gouache for the white highlighting in the ripples.

This is my depiction of the North American house hippo, which is Canadian lore made famous by the PSA from the 90s warning us about them. It was educating us about fake news before it became a term. I painted this in children's grade oil pastel. It depicts a miniature hippo eating melon bread in a Showa style kitchen. The background is made up of blue tiles, hanging pots and pans, and dish soap.

Expect a video update soon! I finished editing the Nagoya Stamp Rally video, and it is exporting as I write this. Going forward, I will be using the end screen as an art gallery of sorts to share the art and things I've been working on behind the scenes over these last four years.

I never thought I would be playing Taylor Swift! Specifically, her version of Last Christmas! I was never a Swiftie, but I quickly realised her appear during my research. During the Christmas parties this year, I also played Green Day's Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), among others. I played the song with "cheater" chords that I came up with on my own - G E C D. I hope to master the real ones and finger picking soon. The above text is arranged on notepaper, glued to a watercolor wash background. The winter design paper lines the top page, as well as onto the next page.I also embellished the page with stickers featuring Santa and his reindeer. Next page: Dec. 31, 2023 New Year's Eve was pretty low-key. I put my art on the back burner for much of the holiday in order to have more time to study guitar. Jan. 1 2024. ... Originally taken on November 22, 2014. Featuring a grilled panini sandwich, and the Christmas cup that I mentioned in the main body. Most of the design is obscured by the coffee sleeve. These were designed with the old Second Cup branding. This is a closeup shot of the Christmas cup with one of my university textbooks visible in the background. What makes this design is its baby blue colour and simple brown outline design. Snow is accented in white. There is an image of a bus in the foreground with a sign that reads, "VISIT Canada". This is a page spread documenting winter school with students. Text reads: COOKING ^ WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE STUFFED PEPPERS Due to a miscommunication, we cooked the meat separately as meat balls, and put them inside the raw peppers after. These are supposed to be stuffed peppers, not meat balls on peppers! I joked that I would have been fired from Gordan Ramsey's kitchen for that dish! This page spread is primarily red, and uses layering like the previous layout. In addition to stuffed peppers, the students also made tamago yaki and rice.

This is the updated cover for 2024. I made an updated version of Much Music Canada’s Fromage logo with Ed the Sock, and an older vintage YTV logo as a blue cow. These compliments the assorted stickers from Traveler’s Company, and other places. Other side to show a custom painting of The Stinky Cheese Man on the reverse side. I made the cover on cover from a Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Bag. Removing the paper bag cover on cover to show the yellow 2022 Traveler’s Company Caravan cover. I updated it with the 2024 sticker and accent paintings of more cheese, cheese toast, and a fried egg. The last insert is the B-Sides & Rarities washable paper, decorated with a washing machine on the front. I decorated it with more Traveler’s Conpany stickers - sauna, the Psn Am dog, and a milk cap. I made a custom care label, and added a laundry soap sticker.

These are my choice Traveler's Notebooks for this year. I'm using an older limited insert dated from 2022 from the Traveler's Factory Caravan event. It is a yellow insert with the art from the event foil stamped on it in red and blue. It features a camel inside a circus tent with text to match. The inside is plain kraft paper. The main calendar planner is the monthly one with the red cover. I customized it with an updated logo from Much Music Canada's Fromage program with this year marked on it. Plainted in Sakura Acryl Gouache and Acrylics. I also customized it with assorted stickers from Traveler's Factory and other places, mainly 100 yen shops. Close up details of the Fromage logo. Both photos are watermarked with my name, @meghan9436.

Here is a rare look at one of my children's classes! #Crayola  products are hard to come by in Japan, undoubtedly because of the availability of other supplies that we can get locally. But there was something so magical about cracking open the 1999 64 count box and the Colors of Kindness box!
The text reads, クレヨラが大好き！/ We Love Crayola! This is a rare look at one of my English classes here in Japan. This was one of the first times I brought Crayola crayons to class. The kids were so delighted! Pictured: Colors of Kindness crayons (24 count), 64 count crayons (1999 release), washable markers (8 count) & Super Tips (20 count). The poster captures the Y2K aesthetic that I have created for my brand, mixing pinks, greens, and purples. The pictures themselves are scattered Polaroid style throughout the page, where the kids are customizing their paper Christmas tree ornaments. Christmas tree, satisfied faces, and stars are utalized to protect student identities.

Here is my ice cream sundae、and stickers from my previous visit. I got a hungry Mamechi during yesterday's visit.

This is the sundae that is part of the Sushiro collaboration. It has marble ice cream, frozen strawberries, off brand Pop Rocks, vanilla ice cream, and cheesecake in the middle. The sticker bonus sits next to it. My coffee and used plates sit in the background. These are some of the stickers I got from this collaboration. I'm so happy that I got the hungry Mamechi and hungry Kuchipatchi! These two stickers feature the old pixel art and they have sushi in front of them. The remaining sticker utalises modern art and shows Mamechi wearing a mascot hat, serving sushi.

Oh dang, I was lucky that I got there yesterday because it was the last day of the promo! Sushiro had this adorable collaboration with #Tamagotchi. Just look at the promo art that circles around the conveyor belt! The art is so cute.
