Chicago police arrested a group participating in a rally yesterday that called attention to the huge wealth gaps in the city and demanded that city leaders use next year's budget to bring more equity across neighborhoods. 2/4

Here are some words from organizers:

Everyone involved in the nagging of Allison After Nxivm should be ashamed of themselves

Allison After Nxivm is also emblematic of how the true crime genre spotlights salacious fascination with bad behavior, at the expense of the real people harmed-- by the person who hurt them and then again by their worst moments turned into content

My abuser's wife was his primary victim, but she was also the top lieutenant in his campaign of abuse and control.

I imagine what it might be like for the women Allison harmed to her her gloss over how she controlled their lives down to the minute and sent them to be sexually assaulted

Allison After Nxivm is nothing more than a sympathetic puff piece about a pretty white girl who got in over her head and wants to reenter the public sphere.

There is no reckoning with what she did. Just "I thought I was helping women grow and I didn't understand how they didn't understand it"

It's a cynical stunt from everyone involved, elevating the fascination with people who cause unthinkable harm over actual accountability, much less any interrogation of the underlying causes of the harm in the first place

It's everything wrong with access journalism: the podcast producers have no incentive to challenge Allison AT ALL. If they don't let her hand wave away the monstrous things she did as "yeah i hurt people," they don't get a hit with the true crime podcast crowd or uncritical writeups in Rolling Stone

I am a survivor of domestic and sexual violence in a setting with some echoes of Nxivm. This podcast is nothing more than platforming an abuser, who doesn't understand she did anything wrong, to launch her redemption arc.
