🇬🇧 At a time when the Government faces immense pressure to raise revenue & rein in spending, it is disappointing that it did not as part of the #Budget provide an update on its review into the spiralling cost of #NHS clinical negligence claims.

The GMC is right to raise concerns over the increasing number of #IMGs leaving the UK, this is a worrying development. All #doctors, regardless of where they qualified, make a significant contribution to the #NHS and should feel valued.

Today’s NAO’s report, showing the Government’s liability for clinical negligence claims has reached £60bn, highlights the immediate need to tackle disproportionate legal fees combined with a wider strategy to tackle the cost of clinical negligence.

Much more needs to be done to ensure healthcare professionals in Ireland can take time off to access #mentalwellbeing support when they need it without stigma, Dr James Thorpe said at today’s Surgical Forum of Great Britain and Ireland.
