Epiphany's Nutella #kingcake. There's a very generous ribbon of Nutella around this, and the bread is very plain to offset. Nice balance, but you've gotta with this much Nutella.

La Vie en Rose's Cream Cheese #kingcake. This one is odd- it's not exactly bread, much more croissant and very flaky pastry. High fall-apart factor. The cream cheese pops nicely with a light caramel and the crunchy topping make for some interesting mouthfeel. Arguably not a king cake.

Almost!

OH Danish Bakery's kringle. Not a #kingcake. Very much a... cream cheese danish, lightly croissant-y. Zero cinnamon flavor. Shorter than you'd expect.

Robert's cream cheese #kingcake. Higher than expected gloop factor. Just fine for grocery store king cake. You could do worse.

Ayu Bakehouse's latest creation, the Queen Bee. Candied citrus and honey cream. Utterly delicious, the photo isn't doing the golden sparkle color justice. Arguably not a #kingcake. Very bright bright citrus and expert flaky dough. My slice didn't have enough honey cream.

Nonna Randazzo's traditional #kingcake. This is my wife's favorite. The icing is nice and thick, the bread is not too heavy or too sweet.

Antoine's #kingcake is the best. The cinnamon is aromatic, the dough is soft & bready, the cream cheese is little pots rather than a ribbon; I prefer sugar to icing, but DAMN this is good without qualifications. It's my go-to recommendation. (Note I usually rank top three)

New to me, Party Palace #kingcake. Very traditional style. Low cinnamon, very "yellow" bready flavor. Soft.

Mr. Bubbles' Pandan and Ube #kingcake with a light coconut icing. Same thing as the little ones, but bigger. More bready and I don't know what I'm looking for with pandan/ube.

Maurice's Bakery Ponchatoula Strawberry #kingcake. VERY delightful and bright, popping strawberry flavor. You can tell they did that whipped cream with love by hand. High gloop factor.

Maurice Bakery's #kingcake, a gallette. Very flaky and creamy. I didn't get any almond from this, which isn't a bad thing; just different. Beautiful presentation.

Durian Dong Phuong #kingcake. Notes of vanilla, garlic, sauteed onions, and funk.
