The silver lining: less influence of commercial interests on the #fact-checking process. Because claim selection was controlled by Meta, fact-checkers were increasingly debunking viral, non-political content rather than reviewing political claims that bear on democratic-related interests. 1/2

This should rightfully prompt a mass exodus from Threads to Bluesky.

This platform is the last remaining refuge from the tyranny of the authoritarian-tech oligarch alliance.

Congratulations to Earth Scientists (and colleagues of mine) Larry Edwards (UMN) & Richard Alley (Penn State) who were awarded the National Medal of Science, the nation's highest honor for science. These two have been blazing trails helping us to understand our climate system for decades.
