I've watched the New York Times grin as it lets itself get led around by the nose by Christopher Rufo, who literally says that's what he's doing *in the pages* of the Times. But then we're supposed to just accept "oh yeah we fired Epstein's Times buddy 6 years ago, it's cool, nothing to see here"?

There's a very obvious double standard at work here, where we get JAQing off FUD about Biden's mental health, the mere existence of transgender people, Clinton's email habits, trans people again, Mamdani's college app, more about trans people, but impenetrable "standards" for anything else.

One of the reasons people--myself included--are upset is the lack of transparency from the Times about this entire situation when they've gone on endless crusades against transgender people on flimsy evidence or ideological whim; we can also talk about the Mamdani/Columbia thing or Claudine Gay.
"I'm a rando who prefers to believe that everything is a conspiracy and am happy to tell women that I know better than she does how their literal job works" That a news org makes an editorial decision you wouldn't (or I wouldn't) doesn't mean someone is killing a story on behalf of a powerful person
"I write for the New York Times, and I can assure you that we've never buried stories on behalf of powerful people, many of those powerful people being part of NYT management. We only publish what's fit to print, like Zohran's application to Columbia that was leaked by a white nationalist"

Spanberger faced a total retread of the trans panic attacks on Harris, using some of the exact same language. She didn't leave those attacks unanswered. Instead, she turned the race into a referendum on discrimination.
"... by focusing on policies that benefit everyone and standing up very deliberately for the most marginalized groups, you can show that you are strong enough to stand up for everyone."

Andrea Pitzer on how both Mamdani and Spanberger showed Democrats how to fight back against the trans panic.

If nothing else comes out of the backlash to Trumpism, let it be a renewed commitment to small-r republicanism. This should be embarrassing. It should be shameful. You are a free citizen of a free republic, act like one for God's sake.
Something that’s so striking in these emails is how…unimpressive Epstein is. He comes off as a pompous, sub-literate lech. Yes everyone is so mortifyingly solicitous of him! All fawning and flattery! Why?????

Trump: The bible tells us that one of the measures of any society is how it cares for vulnerable children and orphans—so important and so big in the bible.

for the record, this is how the @nytimes.com covered Bloomberg, a man elected to the same office as Katie Wilson with the exact same amount of experience in public office as Katie Wilson, but whom the paper did not view with obvious contempt www.nytimes.com/2001/11/07/n...

NYT journalists: how dare you accuse me of belonging to an organization that systematically demeans women and victims of sexual trafficking

NYT today: this greedy kid wanted money for braces and so ended up becoming sexually trafficked. The real victim? Matt Gaetz

It's so interesting that in the name of practicality we are urged to avoid any practical action; in the name of redemption we are urged to exonerate people who have shown no interest in redemption; in the name of civility we are urged to overlook the cruelty of those who scorn all civility

Honestly if billionaires and diehard MAGA people only cared about making money, we'd probably be in considerably less danger right now.

The enemy is weak and humiliated while simultaneously being dangerous and threatening through a shift in tge focus of the argument. The facust mob accepts this because the conclusion is the point. He wants to hate immigrants and will accept whatever argument reaches that point.
Immigrants are so poor and backwards, they're eating (white) people's cats and they're eating their dogs!

Also, immigrants are so rich and elitist that they're stealing all the good Ivy League admissions spots from deserving (white) students in America!

There's no problem Vance won't blame on immigrants, even if he has to invent the problem himself.

A few weeks ago he was insisting immigrants lived in cramped squalor and their (white) neighbors had a right to be upset about that.

Now they're so rich they're snatching up all the good houses? OK.
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

I can't even fathom what January will look like, except probably very bad for the Trump regime.

Absent a major black swan event, I don't see a path to power consolidation for them at this point.

For a number of reasons, not just Epstein.

(Thread)
The timetable evidently has been accelerated.

What's your new predication for when we get to January?

I'll just throw a random one out there: They do release the Epstein files but only after Trump had time to preemptively pardon himself and he tells his base he had to cause it was a Dem smear job.

Broadly there's really no question that the press is functionally on the side of (1) Republicans (2) rich pedophiles. The only question is if they're doing so deliberately or not
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

The New York Times considered this a huge story but decided to pass on photos of Trump with scantily clad girls in Jeffrey Epstein's kitchen. It is not possible to hate them enough.
here at the Paper of Record, when an open white supremacist leaks someone's college application in an attempt to imply he got unfair race-based special treatment, even though he was rejected, we know what to do: publish it immediately prospect.org/2025/07/09/2...
