19. Anna B Savage - You & I Are Earth

This is the soundtrack to sitting by a log fire, with a glass of red in hand, feeling peacefully content. All is full of love - both with her relationship and to Ireland where she now calls home. A hug of an album.

19. Drive to Goldenhammer by Divorce

Fantastic debut album from Nottingham band, Divorce. Their duel vocals work a treat here, and their brand of somewhat theatrical, alt-country tinged indie-rock, is surely taking them onto bigger and better things!

20. Rich(ard) Dawson - End Of The Middle

Now just Rich - gone were the 40 minute epics from his previous album and in it’s place, these nine warm, engaging insights into the repeating patterns of behaviour on generations of a family

Favourite track - Polytunnel

20. Automatic by The Lumineers

I bucked the trend on this, it's not their most popular album! Musically more sparse, which gives the vocals & underlying message space to breathe. Still rustic, but a more cynical & bleak edge than is usual for them.

21. Downpour by Charmer

The 1st of several emo-oriented albums in my top 25, it's broodily melancholic yet verging on anthemic, with overdriven, punchy grunge era guitars. Deeply introspective, influenced by the transition from youth into adulthood.

22. Bleeds by Wednesday

Whilst not quite hitting the chaotic peaks of RatSawGod, this is a more refined album and continues their fine form of making raw, intimate & erratic music that, for me, got better with each listen (at least initially).

Would definitely recommend this to anyone that harbor's any affection towards Teenage Fanclub!
I've only just discovered that Ben Gibbard (of Death Cab For Cutie) did an entire cover album of Bandwagonesque by Teenage Fanclub, and I'm a bit excited!

I wrote about the weaponisation of Captain Tom - with uncharacteristic caution - at the time for @bylinetimes.bsky.social - it wasn't just his family that was using his legacy. It was the government too - who were desperate to associate the pandemic with the war.
