There’s much that is unknown about the impact of Assad’s collapse. But one point is irrefutable: Iran’s regional strategic construct has crumbled. Between what has happened to Hezbollah, Hamas, and now Assad, the multiple proxy structure is but a bloody memory.

I was in Syria just before the war. I met these wonderful school kids in Palmyra. I have thought of them often over the years. As things seem to be shifting in Syria, I wonder where they are and what their futures hold.
