Time for end-of-year clean up. I am checking my (new) followers... Reminder: I'll block anyone with a dubious or non-existant bio, as well as those with mostly bot/AI generated content or only reposting political memes/ lifted-off stuff. Even if I agree with the message.
Ooooh noes, scientific journal scams found their way to me. Took them around a year to pick my new address... Didn't miss them.

Big news last week, our project within @gevol.bsky.social got funded! 🤩 @nturetz.bsky.social @pechmannm.bsky.social @posnienlab.bsky.social, Niko Prpic-Schäper and myself will look into molecular mechanisms and phenotypic consequences of paralog divergence in insects and chelicerates. Stay tuned!

It's been a year! Lots of ups and downs, moving family, stitching everything back together (finding medical providers, where to buy my jogurt, making new friends, the list goes on) and setting a new lab from scratch, because of industry hiatus. I've got a good team.😍 Second year, here I come!

can AI at the very least do us a service and help people not send job apps out where minimum requirement of having a PhD is missing? thank you. It is no that I could just ignore them... It's more forms to fill!! (yes I am grumpy. tired from course)

It's been 5 years (give or take a few months) since I last did basic mol bio labwork. DNA prep and PCR... Now, after a pandemic, parental leave, industry gap, moving to a new institute, setting up a new lab, my PCR (kinda) worked ⚗️. Okay, just one of the 2. And 3/4 of the samples. Still a win. 😁

finally. After weeks of mistakes (me) and tinkering around (my tech assts) we got a very good algae culture going ⚗️. My mistakes so far: literally grilling a batch because I set light intensity too high in new chamber - using not pure enough water for culture medium - getting day/night rythm wrong

Kid now deeply persuaded the easter bunny needs to see painted eggs at the front door to know they have to come in. Bunny will then take eggs and hide them in home, and also leave some chocolate. Next year I'll had bells to the mix (that's the french version of easter) to complete the confusion

After many years of studying gene and genome duplication, I’m excited to announce this discovery. In addition to sub- and neofunctionalization, a new class of duplicate gene evolution exists: devofunctionalization where one copy maintains ancestral function while the other evolves to whip it good.

Gah. Just trying to set up a new work computer AND sorting a bit what accumulated on various drives over the years-in-between-wo/-research. Driving me nuts. On the bright side: new laptop is SLEEK and I got killer new monitors
