There's a lot of chatter around the proposal being inserted into a budget bill that would put a moratorium on any AI legislation being passed by the states for the next 10 years. I thought I'd say a bit about why this is an absolutely disastrous move.

The way to make sense of it is that the operation of the Democratic Party, as a coalition of antagonistic elements, both structurally and rhetorically works to make political causality harder to understand and obscures proper distribution of credit and blame—more or less deliberately
Good luck to whatever political scientists who will try to square the circle of:

"Americans thought Joe Biden was president in 2020, and blamed Democrats for COVID "

and

"Americans knew Trump wasn't president until after the TikTok ban went into force in 2025, and so blamed Democrats"

The divide between the liberal establishment/media and the widespread public responses to the UHC assassination is a perfect example of how the left has no meaningful participatory outlet like this. Rather than catching onto the clear desire for change/justice, lib media just scolds the revelers
How right wing media is like improv theater. My coauthor @danielletomson.bsky.social and I are really proud of this piece which builds upon ~10 years of research at UW studying the participatory nature of rumors/disinformation and Danielle’s dissertation studying right-wing influencers for 5+ years.
Right-wing media operates like #improv theater, with influencers as performers and audiences as active participants. #Researchers explain how this dynamic ecosystem shapes reality for many Americans. https://buff.ly/3CSLpm3 Danielle Lee Tomson and @katestarbird.bsky.social @uofwa.bsky.social)
