Questlove’s excellent documentary on Sly and the Family Stone pinpointed how groundbreaking the band was and how influential they were to black artists. I personally think that Stand was their best album. #BlackHistoryMonth #Americanmusichistory

Spinning Pete Shelly’s Homosapien from Richard’s collection. I remember hearing the single Homosapien at Revival, as it was a popular song in the alternative club scene and college radio. It also became one of those songs that was popular with LGBTQ fans due to its openly gay lyrics.

Spinning Ladytron’s 2002’s sophomore album Light & Magic. The album employs more digital sounds and dance beats than the mostly old school synths used on the debut album 604. Blue Jeans, from the album, is my favorite song on the album. I put a link to it in the comments.

David Lynch’s visuals were so unique and quirky, and I loved that both sound and music also played a major role in his films and in Twin Peaks. The disturbing industrial sounds in both Erasurehead and The Elephant Man were just as important in setting the tone for the movies as the visuals.

I don’t usually buy or collect multiple versions of an album, but I do make exceptions. Case in point: Sparks’ 1974 album Kimono My House. This is a European reissue I picked up in a real funky but very cool beer garden/flea market in Budapest, Hungary.

RIP Sam Moore. One of the joys of the recent documentary on Stax Records was seeing clips of Sam and Dave live. Those two were electrifying on stage.
