Mainly cycling stuff in Edinburgh
The Gayfield wandering manhole cover is on the move again. It’s been like this for several years thanks to Trams To Newhaven. Apparently responsibility is unclear but surely CEC are responsible enough to at least bolt it down for now like this one in a New Town pavement. Amazing nobody injured yet.

Carmageddon on Elm Row - echelon parking in the parallel parking encroaching on cycleway; parking in crossing area; parking on footway outside shops. This is supposed to be a place for people not a car park! Why no wardens? How about some signs to guide drivers?? @jackrmcaldwell.bsky.social

So much for side-on parking on Elm Row - drivers parked right into the cycleway and on the pedestrian access/crossing to the bus stop. @jackrmcaldwell.bsky.social

Anyone know when the works on Elm Row are going to be resumed and
Completed? There is still the cycle access to/from Montgomery Street to be done and removing the cycleway between the bus stop and carriageway - the main driver for the works!

Broken glass on cycleway should count as emergency so suggest phone it in #itwontgetsortedifyoudontreportit

Perhaps a better name for the route?

Strava “Local Legend” for riding Foot of the Walk to Dock Street only 3 times! Hopefully there will soon be hundreds riding it! New features including hand-hold and footstand to avoid need to dismount at signals; some smooth tarmac and some fancy cobbly bits and place-making. Working Sunday!

. many cyclist are not stopping at the cycle signals and risk collisions with crossing pedestrians and then don’t have a signal at the junction or a stop line for them to wait up. Good design theory maybe but doesn’t work in practice.

George V Park - section of cycleway closed for 3 weeks from Feb 3rd for flood prevention again. Walking diversion via playground. Cycling north via Rodney St; South up ramp via Tesco and then via Eyre Place. Works on Eyre Place so probably unsafe northbound (west). Should be well signed on the day!

Shocking that this is still happening on Leith Walk.
Not a traffic warden in sight.

Warning signs being installed on some of the Leith Walk infrastructure installed too close (<500mm) to the cycleway -
Unfortunately not covered in the contractual Edinburgh Street Design guidance (though it’s being updated). Note also needed at signposts and new bus shelters.

Can think of a lot more places where these signs at top of George IV Bridge should be used. Not sure why it's felt that they are needed now - the scaffolding has been up for years - maybe related to works round the corner on Lawnmarket, but thanks. Turned one of them round the right way last night!
