I thought the (obviously AI-assisted) MAHA report might provide the context for a concrete example of how LLMs fabricate citations. It was even easier than I thought. Neither of the first two citations exist, and even similar papers with that title don’t support the claims made.

A former French military base, Vauban is a thriving neighbourhood of 5,500 residents connected to Freiburg town centre by bus and light rail. Built in the late 1990s as a radical experiment in low-car living, it forgoes virtually all on-street parking in favour of active, green, and social spaces. 🧵

Watching Senator Cory Booker break a record set by a man trying to hold America back has been exactly what I have needed to see today.

Working on my Python class and I think I finally figured out my visualization. Data is from HINTS5, cycle 4 from the National Cancer Institute. I did not run any kind of statistical analysis on it, just practicing working with data and making visualizations.

For those wondering why we’re only hearing about one #NNLM and not all the other regions, I took a look at NIH RePORTER to review grant applications. #Region5 is the only one listing terms that have been cause for elimination of other #NIH grants: reporter.nih.gov/project-deta...

we just lost all 7 of our Network of National Library of Medicine, Region 5 (NNLM) library workers.

the grant that covered their salaries was terminated.

this is heartbreaking and demoralizing.

I’m (slowly) learning Python thanks to NNLM’s Fundamentals of Health Data Science course. Just finished making my first solo data visualization. Only took an hour and *a lot* of talking to myself. 🎉

Defunding #IMLS is unbelievable. It funds libraries and museums, conducts research, develops policies, supports workforce development, and advances initiatives on broadband, education, and equity.

We thought maybe the IMLS would be overlooked but because it’s so critical for libraries we went ahead and archived all of the data we could find with the help of @everylibrary.bsky.social But of course IMLS and now #libraries are now under attack. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Great #RDAP25 keynote by @cfiesler.bsky.social on AI training data and the risks of "public" data. Twitter data got used a lot because it was easy to access. Most twitter users didn't know their data was being used. Researchers generally don't consider data ethics. Resources: bit.ly/ai-ethics-news

Love the idea of a listening tour. What a great idea for establishing a new library service and getting direct feedback from researchers. This sounds like a promising way to reach our PhD students and postdocs 🤔 #RDAP25

#RDAP25 has been wonderful for filling in some gaps in my knowledge as a new data librarian. Had no idea that Data Curation Network has a collection of primers. I’ve got some homework now.

Along with games, micro-learning is another favorite trend in libraries. From micro-credentialing programs to hackathons, there are so many opportunities for us to break out of the 1-shot rut librarians often find themselves in. Amber Gallant’s work is an inspiring case on fun learning. #RDAP25

Love the growth of serious play I’ve been seeing in libraries. Do I have any idea how to design a game? No. But do I want to do the kind of work Kelly Burns and Koushiki Pohit are doing at Purdue? Absolutely. Can’t wait to see how their game comes out #RDAP25
