ok now you really have me wondering what a "similar method" would be for that scale of corpus analysis!

I think details are yet to be worked out, so far just emails going around

I came across the Falklands link when I last seriously web searched it, but not those other bits. uni contacts (some in receipt of Binks Buxx) unaware of the Falklands bit or the rest. Why go to the trouble to put the name on things and then go so hard on obfuscation?

hello

linked to their charity registration downthread which is remarkably uninformative (unless I'm missing something); propublica's nonprofit tax filing browser is wonderful, agreed

like, there's enough funding that something like half a dozen people are obliged to have the word Binks in their job titles, and they just apparently print that on their business cards in full ignorance of what "Binks" might be?

yes, the suggestion of "Jar Jar" has already been explored and denied, no stone unturned
November 11, 2025 at 11:09 AM
yes, I know the name comes from the Binks Trust that funded it, but where does that "Binks" come from?

not to be confused with the Edward Binks Trust

Doing nothing is not an option,
and something must be done.
Here is something! So it stands to reason
That this thing must be done.

Race was the issue that exposed the bankruptcy of Watson's genetic determinism. In the 20th century, he made his reputation by staunchly championing the power of DNA. In the 21st, he torpedoed that reputation the same way. That is the great tragedy of James Watson.

had a wonderful team teaching experience with a colleague where we carefully thought through the whole course design together, then only the visiting student office was made aware of it so we had two small and lovely cohorts of Canadians and Americans before it was cancelled for low enrolment.

there's a devaluing of expertise going on here, but it's pedagogical expertise and course architecture, not specialist research expertise (at least when these mandates are given for intro courses)
November 6, 2025 at 8:38 AM
yeah I am currently going through a lot of the negatives of being pushed into team teaching, but the problems for my intro course are about pedagogy and workload, not expertise (and others' discomfort teaching intro material that is not in their research specialism is not helping)
