Imagine if Andre rode the bus more, how much better our bus network would be.
Stoked to have a new interview with Katie Wilson (no relation), Seattle's new mayor, Transit Riders Union co-founder, and living proof that bold vision for (and wonky obsession with) transportation reform can win elections.
'I'm Always on the Bus': How Transit Advocacy Helped Katie Wilson Become Seattle's Next Mayor — Streetsblog USA
"I really think that our public transit system is such a big part of people's daily experience of government," says the incoming mayor of the Emerald City.

Happy early birthday to me from me. I’m upgrading my 2019 Edison e-bike to the latest model.

I’ve commuted 12 miles round trip to work every day I could for the last 5.5 years, putting over 20,000 miles on my old bike.

Technology has progressed and I’m excited to get my hands on the latest.

Mayor's folks are trying the line that TAD funds come only from "future tax growth". True in 1998. False in 2025. The future is now with $200M of taxes being diverted from APS, City, County.

Mayor's team say, "Once the TAD closes ... it increases APS funding."

Exactly. So close them already!
When I am the “some” in “some have suggested”

And if you think extending tax increment financing (TADs/TIFs) in often gentrifying nabes, with already fast-rising property values, is not diverting funding from schools & basic services — hahaha

“TADs do not…divert funding as some have suggested”
Mayor Andre Dickens: Atlanta has a moral imperative to fix city’s inequality
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens says the city's inequalities require investing deeply in distressed neighborhoods. A key to this is extending Tax Allocation Districts for funding.

May be posting these slides a lot in the next few weeks/months...

Tax increment financing (TAD/TIF) is *not* designed for places where property values are already rising fast. It will likely DIVERT already rising revenue from schools & citywide services to development projects in TAD/TIFs. 1/2

The CFP selection show doesn't need to be 3 hours long. Just release the list and be done. Don't explain your bias.

The CFP will still find a way to sneak Bama into the playoffs above a 10-2 Miami.

I am more concerned about my safety from drivers than being murdered in Atlanta. Building Cop City doesn't fix this, but rather exacerbated it because it took funding away from transportation.

Anyone who owns a Tesla, you also own this ideology. Sorry you don't get to slap a sticker on your car and remove yourself.

All resolutions are non-binding. They mean nothing more than the paper written on.
Dozier says that the timing of this legislation doesn't allow for "robust" conversation. He notes that the resolution is nonbinding and regardless of what happens with it, he'll continue to push for changes and conversations around parking in the city.

It's time to move proclamations to their own meeting/ceremony. People can't take off work for >4 hours for civil engagement. This is a barrier for citizens, they know it and won't change it because they want less engagement.
Two hours after the scheduled meeting start time, we've moved on to public comment.

Is DoorDash going to help fund the maintenance and expansion of bike lanes? I remember when shareable micromobility came onto the scene, they promised to help fund expansion of bike lanes.

So glad to see Councilmember @kelseabondatl.bsky.social and others push back against the blanket TAD extension (until 2055!). Some good organizing going on against The Atlanta Way and a policy that would hurt schools and accelerate inequality.

Hopefully this delay will lead to defeat.
