I really appreciated this thoughtful piece about Ta-Nehisi Coates & Ezra Klein. Andrea Pitzer says “lost” folks like Klein “don’t have a clear idea how this moment fits into history and what it is exactly that they’re doing”. [degenerateart.beehiiv.com]
You don’t have to swallow frogs
Klein and Coates show that if you don’t know what your core beliefs are, you’re going to get played.

For decades the NRA and other gun nuts told us that their guns were to protect us all from a tyrannical government. So a tyrannical government is here, they are all sitting on their asses, and the people who want gun control have taken to the streets to defy the tyrannical government instead.

the song about how great the YMCA is as the opening track of an album called “Cruisin’” in which everyone is dressed as a Tom of Finland archetype!??

TRY ME BABY I KNOW THE LAW
Just don't call "YMCA" a gay anthem or the Cop will sue.

Proud to be among sixty-nine faculty members at Rutgers Law School who signed on to the Harvard letter (h/t @beidelson.bsky.social) affirming our commitment to the rule of law.

And I want to highlight something unique our school is doing that I hope will become a model for other schools.

One sign that we are living under an authoritarian regime is that a lot of people are acting like they are living under an authoritarian regime.
The fear among academics and lawyers now talking on the record on just about any topic that involves the federal government or the White House is really extraordinary and worrisome, and getting worse, it seems to me, every week. Dissent by an establishment figures becoming verboten in the US

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.
Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow
As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

@indivisible.org is asking for people to call their senators and demand they call for Chuck Schumer to step down as Senate minority leader. Schumer’s interview tonight on MSNBC shows amply that he is so far behind reality that he will condemn us to dictatorship.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

Marge’s boyfriend tried to be cute.
Ignoring Musk, “You’re not in a suit!”
Zelensky crushed about what he wore,
“I will wear a costume after this war.”

If the Executive can create new agencies and gut the legal agencies created by Congress, make new laws by fiat, there is no constitutional crisis: because the constitutional democracy is DOA. I’m not saying we can’t fight to get it back; but we are not currently a functioning democracy.

Watching John Oliver and I gotta say, the part on conservatives complaining about being censored is great.

Conservatives are censored the same way I censor my dog by making her shit in the yard instead of on the couch.

And *that's* why she's gone. They can treat black folks as interchangeable, but everybody Black knows that Joy was indispensable.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.
