This week, we gave a first look at Gateway Young Adults, our newest program at the former inn at San Mateo and I 40. It will support young people 18 to 25 with housing pathways, job training, and life skills. We’re building opportunities for every young adult to succeed.

Today we opened the new Fire Station 12 on East Central, giving our firefighters the modern space and tools they need. This investment boosts response times, supports our crews, and brings long overdue improvements to a community that deserves it.

Today we welcomed APDs 133rd cadet class. These 25 new officers bring us to nearly 100 new officers this year and 924 sworn officers citywide. Class 133 built real community connections through hands on training. Welcome to the force. This is Real Work, Real Progress for Albuquerque.

Last week we showed how Albuquerque is tackling youth violence with accountability and prevention. APD’s Digital Intelligence Team targets online crime, while ACS’s Violence Intervention Program meets youth where risk is highest. Together they keep our kids safe.

We visited the Barelas Senior Center to thank the volunteers who show up for our community every day, then joined partners at La Mesa Presbyterian Church as they served 1,600 hot meals to our homeless neighbors and families in need. Grateful for this kindness.

Happy Thanksgiving, Albuquerque! This month showed what real work looks like: 99 new APD officers graduated, more Gateway treatment beds opened, new partners joined the effort, and all 4 emergency centers expanded food support. Grateful for our Duke City community.

Albuquerque is mourning the loss of Former Mayor David Rusk, whose vision helped shape our city. We recently honored him by dedicating ABQ RIDE’s original transit facility and the KiMo’s orchestra pit in his name. Our thoughts are with the Rusk family.

Today, we took a major step to protect everyone who walks, bikes, or uses a wheelchair in our city. For the first time since 1974, we updated our traffic laws to put people first and give vulnerable road users the strongest protections ever. Real safety for all.

Crime is moving in the right direction in Albuquerque. Since 2018, violent crime is down 26% and property crime is down 33%. This progress comes from years of focused work, modern policing, and community partnerships. Real work, real progress for our city.
