I frankly haven't bothered to dig deep and try to understand bc I just didn't buy the very first step - "I realized I'm an ontological realist about math and therefore logical consistency requires that I become a devout Catholic" is nonsense, I'm sorry

Dhoom Machale - I had to look it up, I don't know Bollywood as well as I should. And that's why I loved it - he refused to be constrained by the assumption that a political spectacle needs to appeal to the limited cultural competencies of default whiteness as a lowest common denominator.

I think you meant saidar (and the fact that it's easy to get them mixed up means the show did the right thing not to rely on those words too much) - but yeah!! Look out for Scout Storey's forthcoming book on trans readings of WoT!

I appreciate your points and agree! I think I had the pundit class in mind in particular. It's just interesting to me that THIS is everyone's five alarm fire. Kinda shows where the sympathies and priorities are.

Relatedly - it feels like the outage regarding a cancelled comedy show is dwarfing the outrage over Mahmoud Khalil's detention months ago, and ironically it's also drowning out news from yesterday about a new deportation order against him.

What's my point? Idk, I guess I just hope that we're careful not to lend a default sheen of legitimacy to political violence currently being enacted by the state by contrasting it with violence by non-state actors. 4/x

Note how Ezra Klein's list of political violence incidents didn't include the folks who have died while held by ICE with no due process, the utterly illegal execution of Venezuelans, the illegal deployment of the National Guard, the preventable deaths resulting from healthcare policy... 2/x

When you say regressive, are you talking about the weird gender stuff? I think there's a way to read some of that against the grain, but yeah, pretty sure that's a flaw of the author's perspective - especially if he actually believes what he's said about the Uyghurs...

PS - highly recommend listening to Smetana's Vysehrad at the Vysehrad and Vltava while cruising or walking along the Vltava. And/or, listen to some Dvorak at his grave in the Vysehrad cemetery!

I'm very curious what you mean, I love seeing how the show's changes (which I'm generally very positive about) affect people's theories as they read for the first time - would you mind telling me in rot13 for spoiler avoidance?

I'd say the Tencent adaptation was a lesson in "be careful what you wish for" with strict adaptations. Hardcore 3BP fans might enjoy it, but it would absolutely bore the tears out of a general audience who isn't already invested. Sometimes brevity is a virtue. That said, still worth watching!
