not sure if some people understand that part of what makes creating so rewarding is the fact that it *is* hard. It doesn’t matter if you’re been painting or writing for 80 years— every piece will have problems that need solving, and few things feel better than figuring it out.

An annoying thing I’ve noticed in arts/heritage spaces is that instead of funding the creation of art, they instead want you to run workshops on how to make that art, presumably so then more people can then not get paid to make art but give a continuing chain of workshops

It’s going to be tough to hold anyone’s attention but pointing out the 50% reduction in arts funding and the imminent closure of somewhere nearing 40% theatres mid-panto season is a good move. Just desperately hoping the govt has a plan for this #theatre #arts

This morning two theatre companies (Freedom Studios and Coney) have announced their permanent closure. Both 'left' the National Portfolio in 2023 and have found the climate impossible since. Their statements are heartbreakingly similar. Without massive funding reform many more will follow in 2025.

•Emilia• just opened at Leeds Conservatoire. I've loved this play since seeing it online during lockdown and couldn't wait to get my hands on designing it!

My biggest issue with AI evangelism in our industry is that it treats creativity like a problem to be solved, and not an adventure to be had.

Beauty and the Beast is open at Junction Goole! It excites me to think of all the schools and children who's first experience of theatre will be our show and how this might inspire them in their future lives. You can cut arts from schools - but we will bring schools to the art.

The biggest crisis in theatre is that the whole economic system survives by massively underpaying people.

Grateful for the days when I'm creating new designs in the studio while other designs are being built in workshops. Always a perpetual cycle of blank page excitement and 'are you sure that's the right size?' nerves
