Although I knew it was meant to be unsettling, I still found the film an almost-punishing experience outside of Jennifer Lawrence's performance. Great to see her return to her indie roots and prove she can be as good as an actress as she is a movie star. But this one didn't land with me.

Maybe. This is just my own personal ballot, but regarding the Oscar five, if they love Wicked: For Good enough and he's got more material, then maybe there's a chance.

I will also say, as someone who didn't care for KINDS OF KINDNESS and found POOR THINGS to be well-made yet banal, this is my second favorite Stone/Yorgos collab behind THE FAVOURITE.

I mean, almost every Oscar season, Natalie Portman gets dragged online for not working w/as many female directors. Yet, she's made more of an effort than most of the men mentioned in this article who aren't putting in any effort.
