It might be regional. It's definitely a thing IN Ireland, but it became pub food after the diaspora. It's essentially late night Chinese food in Ireland. Might even be a 20th century phenomenon.

"Irish culture" in the US tends to focus on the culture brought over in the 18th and 19th century.

Oh yeah. It's an Irish pub classic. Good for fortifying before a long night or recovery after. Curry spiced nuggies, fries and veg served in a bag with Irish curry sauce
