It is excellent that the Conservatives are readopting a core principle of no retrospective changes.

It is a big policy change.

The media shouldn't collude in attempts to misinform the public that this was all some big misunderstanding while their policy hasn't changed

This is all very persuasive and yet, despite Brexit and Boaty-McBoatface, I still have faith in the citizens of the UK to find a solution better in practice and in principle than the current one. That may take a decades-long conversation but we should begin it.
