In case you missed it yesterday, “a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to continue paying for food stamps during the shutdown” (New York Times).
Why is this happening? Because dozens of states have sued the administration over planned cuts to foods stamps.

Trying to recreate the best batch of lacto-fermented hot sauce I’ve made. It was a few years ago, and I made no notes (all I remember was that it had smoked habaneros in it). I have a tiny bit of the old batch left to do comparison taste tests. Fingers crossed!

I’m guessing the sauce/horse people are Brits, and probably posh Brits. If they are, this pronunciation actually tracks perfectly. Imagine the upstairs Downtown Abbey crowd: sauce and cross definitely don’t rhyme in that dialect, but I can hear how sauce and horse would.

In the fluteshop, we have been experimenting with Osage Orange wood (Maclura pomifera) and it has some intriguing and exciting aspects from a flutemaking standpoint. It grows relatively quickly, and is native to the United States, meaning that it has some potential ecological benefits. 1/

If you have a mini-split style heating and cooling unit and it’s never been disassembled and deep-cleaned, there’s a good chance the inside looks like this.
