mmm. I feel like "Locks in on" would better highlight how based this is.

I might include something like this in WEX in a future update. I was going to mess around with the idea of showing off web rot with fake broken embeds but is anything more indicative of modern web rot in this country than links broken by the grand censorship act.

I can see how these services provide some benefit to disabled people and ideally that would be it. It'd be interesting to see an actual study on the demographics of people using them though.

wanna bet they're still asking for you to "leave a tip for your delivery driver" on these things?

God I wish house prices were down that much. don't threaten us with a good time paul.

as far as sample sizes go I wouldn't trust my doctor to diagnose a cold with that much data
November 28, 2025 at 9:03 PM
yeah. it seems like just being the default when people need to upgrade seems to be the real way to catch on. Only very few people are going out of their way to buy a new TV just because. Smart TVs are pretty miserable but you need things that connect to the internet these days, so they've sold well.

I know some people who upload HD youtube videos in like 16k or whatever they're offering these days to get the extra bandwidth and nothing else. like it's just point filter scaled up.
November 28, 2025 at 8:53 PM
I can, but I'm not sure I'd get the benefits of it. Half of the stuff I watch is already in standard definition these days because DVDs are just less of a hassle to find something to play them in than blu rays. Aside from reading a lot of text on screen, it really doesn't make much difference to me.

one of those things where a member of the production team showed up in the youtube comments for something so idk if I can cite it, but I definitely remember reading it.
November 28, 2025 at 8:44 PM
i remember hearing a story about the production of monsters vs aliens where they were told they had to make the movie 3D so they put in one shot at the beginning that "took advantage of the benefits of 3D movies" and then did basically nothing with it for the rest of the movie because no one cares.
November 28, 2025 at 8:42 PM
it also costs way more than 5 bucks a month per person to run, given the scaling problem.
November 28, 2025 at 8:40 PM
8k? that one must have died quick, i can't remember anything about that.
November 28, 2025 at 8:38 PM
in theory they kinda should be doing that if they don't want it to start breaking down, in practice the amount of stuff they have to shovel into the moloch machine made it impractical for anyone to check the quality of any of it even before this was a problem.
November 28, 2025 at 12:15 AM
honestly I don't think I've ever summed up why I don't like the idea of working with one of these any better in however many years it's been.

"the revolution welcomes everyone, but displays no class consciousness at all"

then.. how is this a revolution? sounds like pinkwashing.

is "chief people officer" a term for the adult version of the childcatcher from chitty chitty bang bang?
November 27, 2025 at 8:54 PM
jesus christ i already hated it, but putting into perspective how much it makes someone absent from their kids' life...

we seriously need to do something to fix society.
November 27, 2025 at 8:49 PM
perhaps the one time when youtube A/B thumbnail testing would be called for.
November 27, 2025 at 8:43 PM
huh, from the demeanor I was expecting some sigma grindset mid-20s year old who'd been tricked out of any sort of dreams they had in life, not someone old enough to retire.

aeroplanes are way more whimsical sounding than airplanes and we should not let them take any points of joy we have left in the world from us.
