I'm just here for the Schadenfreude. Don't tell me to leave; I did that in 2022.
On reflection, maybe the rest of America screaming at New Yorkers about 9/11 and thinly veiled appeals to xenophobia to a city that's 60%+ non-white on the eve of its mayoral election wasn't the most persuasive argument...

JD Vance can dismiss the Young Republicans as a college group chat.

But let's be clear: the group chat includes a State Senator, a Trump Admin official, and multiple Republican staffers — and some of the worst comments came from folks associated with Mike Johnson, Elise Stefanik, and Mike Lawler.

LA - Up 150%
WV - Up 387%
WY - Up 382%

Shocked but not surprised to learn how many ~titans of industry~ who probably think of themselves as brave ballsy businessmen are actually cowardly pieces of shit when it counts.

smart play would’ve been
let Nexstar affiliates drop JKL
alienate their customers
then play hero
offer free streaming ABC access
to affected viewers
as a 1st Amendment gesture
while they negotiated
& let things cool off.

Instead
Disney looks like enemy of free speech
& nobody’s talking abt Nexstar.

Another horrific series of press rights abuses tonight at hands of LAPD.

Initial reports are 4 journalists injured (several bleeding), 3 cameras broken, 5 put in zip ties.

All in defiance of state law, a judge's order, and chief's signed order.

LAPD can't police itself. Maybe the judge will.

Listen to people when they tell you this — the United States Government under Trump isn’t “becoming fascist, authoritarian and corrupt.” It’s already those things. The Trump Government is fascist, authoritarian and corrupt. The fact that it’s going to keep getting worse doesn’t mean that isn’t true.

When I suggested Democrats hold daily press conferences to share stories of Republican pedophiles, I meant they could bring up all the old stories.

I didn’t think that we’d get new stories about a GOP pedophile every day, but whatever works I guess

Agree this is shocking, but I find it historically unsurprising. While American democracy had deeper roots and more guardrails than Germany in 1933, the U.S. has been subject to destructive capitalist forces in recent years which have left the Republic only lightly defended. 🧵
We are seven months in, and the speed with which vital civic institutions are capitulating to authoritarian demands we once would have regarded as inconceivable in an established liberal democracy is jawdropping. I hadn't thought I was polyannaish about America, but it's really stunning.

I wonder if Greg Abbott and the TXGOP is adequately accounting for this little shift in their little redistricting plan…
Huh…

I wonder what changed…

The next Democratic president needs to leverage this new precedent to cut the Pentagon budget in half, eliminate ICE, and take a very skeptical look at farm subsidies.
Budget agreements won’t matter, funding obligations won’t matter, expended funds on the basis of promised reimbursement won’t matter.

You really don’t get the impression the GOP is thinking through what this means for the second they’re not in control.
“We don’t have an appropriations process. It’s broken. It’s been broken for a while,” said Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., who sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee.

He predicted that there will be CRs and rescission packages for the next four years.

Autocratic populism produces poverty and decline
💥Viktor Orbán’s demographic strategy is a disaster. Over the past decade, 37.8% of Hungary’s population decline was due to emigration to other EU countries. Hungary is losing the competition to retain its own citizens while birth rates tank. Read Direkt36's in-depth article on @vsquare.bsky.social👇

I predict that a few of us will be making the “financial decision” to learn everything we can about the business interests of CBS, Paramount and Skydance in order to do everything we can to make sure that not a single dollar of ours goes to them ever again.

There’s a nonzero chance you will die from a cancer that could have been curable because people who couldn’t pass 7th grade biology and are scared of things like “mRNA” and “riboflavin” and “walkable cities” decided to make their ignorance everybody else’s problem
Over 120 mRNA cancer trials are now at risk as the Trump admin cuts funding & tells researchers to scrub “mRNA” from grant proposals.

What started as COVID fearmongering is now derailing life-saving cancer research.

Hope remains - but scientists say time is running out.

If Mamdani had checked just Asian or say, Asian and white (bear with me) NYT would never have run that story.

The only reason they ran that story is because of the cultural belief that being Black gives you leg up in society despite research that says that isn't true.
