This is a grotesque assault on faculty expertise and self-governance. I was fortunate enough to start my academic career as an assistant professor at Montclair State. Solidarity with MSU humanists being buzzworded into a new School of Human Narratives and Creative Expressions none of them want.

🚗 EV adoption isn’t just about cars—it’s also about oil.

The @iea.org’s #WEO2025 shows that the pace of transport electrification is the most significant factor in determining future oil demand.

Meanwhile in Canada, half of the country lives in provinces ruled by people who think solar is Evil and Unmanly, and the federal government is run by a man lacking both imagination and conviction when it comes to energy and climate policy.
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

In 2018 Ford promised he wouldn't touch rent control. He lied. Now he has the audacity to blame renters for his failure to build housing and make life affordable Ontarians. Bill 60 will accelerate the rate of homelessness, and blames renters for the Landlord Tenant Board that he broke.

I cannot tell you how many tech journalists at prominent media organizations do not understand this
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

This would have led to catastrophic new levels of homelessness — thank you to everyone who spoke out.

Now let’s keep hammering the Ford government on its bad decisions about bike lanes, supervised consumption sites and speed cameras.

An epically bad week for Canada's auto industry, and for our EV strategy in particular. Would love to hear from some #NDP leadership candidates on how to respond. Double down on subsidies to car companies? Open the door to Chinese EVs? Big issues for Canadian workers and for our climate goals.
