He says that Napoleonics is the best as far as mechanics go, and he thinks it is a better entry than Ancients as well. So that's his recommendation!

I have asked my Command & Colors-obsessive friend for his recommendations, and I'll report back once I have them!
He and I played Ancients when he was introducing it to me, and I understood it right away and liked it a lot. I know he's played a bunch of them, so I'll get his take too.
