It seems that the real way to survive a political scandal is to get into 25 a day.

When Mike Myers wore his "Canada Is Not For Sale" t-shirt on SNL, he mouthed a secret code: "elbows up."
It's a reference to the great Gordie "Mr. Elbows" Howe who punished those that messed with his team.
You heard him Canada: elbows up.
If anyone asks why, tell them that Mike Myers sent you.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

You will hear many calls for unity.

Philippians 2 tells us how true unity happens: by all parties giving up selfish ambition and putting each others' interests before their own. By mutual submission.

If someone calls for you to unify with them but is not willing to do this, is it unity they want?

Everyday ways to oppose fascism that I know are doable bc I did them this week:
1. Visit a sick person in hospital
2. Listen to an unhoused person's fears about their missing friend and pray with them
3. Fill the mutual aid pantry with food
4. Find a translator to help welcome an immigrant family

There’s no difference between a pessimist who says, “Oh, it’s hopeless, so don’t bother doing anything,” and an optimist who says, “Don’t bother doing anything, it’s going to turn out fine anyway.” Either way, nothing happens.

Praying for our leaders doesn’t mean praying they will succeed in their plans.

Sometimes it means praying they will fail in any plot to do harm or injustice to others.

Sometimes it means praying that the Lord will restrain them from their own worst impulses & from destroying their own integrity.
