It should be illegal to not notify people about yearly subscriptions renewing until *after* they've charged you, with no way of getting a refund.

"The puzzle of Trumpism has been solved. ... Journalists and commentators no longer need to employ euphemism or coin neologisms to describe it. He’s a fascist, and he’s trying to erect a fascist regime in the United States. The only question now is whether he succeeds."
Yes, It's Fascism
It’s not an omen or threat or hint of fascism—it’s the thing itself.

What a great, easy explanation of the tariffs mess. I'm sure we'll be seeing this a lot.

Is it even possible to get Google to show you things that aren't for sale? I can't find any of the websites I'm sure exist that just catalog specific old stuff. Every link is a listing for a fake product version of what I want.

I have got to stop going to Costco on the same day as the field trip of the Club for People Who Have Never Been In A Crowd.

I think most people are intuitively aware of this but something like the official White House account posting an “ASMR” video of shackled immigrants is not just cruel for its own sake, it’s intentional envelope-pushing to ramp up to desensitization over inhumane detention, camps, and deaths

Had a ton of fun checking out the Portland Winter Light Festival over the weekend. I guess it can be nice to get out of the house occasionally. 😎

I'm starting to hate seeing people say we're "polarized" in this country. I don't think "There are fascists and Nazis trying to tear down our country" and "people who don't like that" counts as polarized.

An MLK Jr. quote I like that you don't hear that much.

“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”

We will never have free speech OR safety for marginalized people on platforms owned and controlled by billionaires & monopolists.

My cranky ass opinion is we should spend less time worrying about what Zuck says and more time building a movement to dismantle Big Tech & build the Internet we need

10 years ago I was inspired by something that Merlin Mann said about only having a certain number of Saturdays with your kids. I put 521 marbles in the left jar and every Saturday I've moved a marble over. It's been a lot of fun watching the kids grow and become cool adults. On to the next 10 years!

A couple people are like “she’s actually barely lost any net worth” and that’s kind of the point: you can do an incredible amount of stuff and give away billions of dollars and not even notice it and 95% of rich people won’t even do that because they’re nihilist assholes
The contrast really is striking isn’t it

I added some LED holiday lights to our house recently and they came out great. I used the QuinLED-Dig-Quad WLED board and am very happy with it.

A year ago, I wrote a review of Erik Larson's "In the Garden of Beasts," an account of the US Ambassador to Germany's tenure there in the early-mid 30s.

I shared lessons from the account that feel more relevant now than ever.

Here is a snippet of them:

I'm watching When We Were Kings so I guess I should make my first bluesky post a quote from The Greatest.
