Maybe it’s the people I tend to find myself around with but asking anyone what books they’re reading or read recently has always been the best conversation starter that launches into deep discussion. So far it’s worked 99% of the time.

I really love Meyerbeer but his music is just screaming to be performed in a theatre; I can only imagine the theatrical effects that it can give any production. One day I hope to see one of his operas live.

So glad to listen to another recording of Shostakovich's 3rd symphony. There are so many wonderfully dense sounds that characterise his early works that I really love.
