In #MathsToday using my fave algebra tiles to factorise quadratics, so that students can visualise which factor pair they need

Great questions on indices from Maths HKO, really getting students to think deeply #mathstoday

Looking at angles in polygons, deriving the formula several different ways and connecting the maths to the diagrams, building connections with factorising and expanding, nth term of linear sequences. I had a lovely time.

Not posted in a while. Anyone else feeling stuck in a rut?
But I've done some lovely maths, promise to share more tomorrow.

For #MathsToday trig via the unit circle and ratio tables! Students generally want to find quicker ways so the formulas come out naturally and come out nicer opp=sinx x hyp

Also in #MathsToday, using @mathsadvance.bsky.social question about George's consecutive numbers, could have been a forming and solving equation, but my y8s found an easier way!

In #MathsToday, y8 showing the different ways of finding the area of a trapezium. We then spotted we could expand the bracket and have (ah+bh)/2 which is the average of the two trapezia when you look at the little rectangle and big rectangle! @ncetm.bsky.social

I'm out of my comfort zone teaching Y13 (my fave is KS3) but trying my best to embrace the challenge. Confidence has been low and I'm still learning. Chuffed with how I introduced the compound angle formulae in #MathsToday

In #MathsToday I watched my amazing colleague reintroduce algebra tiles to Y8!
How many ways can you show me 4x?

Still algebra tiling with Y8, after factorising single brackets I gave the challenge of a double bracket, even though they haven't expanded binomials yet, and one managed it! Starting next lesson with this picture to see if they can see the expanded and factorised expression for the area

Our amazing ECT and I collaboratively planned some place value lessons at the end of last term- amazing to see how fluently the students are now able to write numbers, and how proud the teacher was of his class. I'm so proud of him 👏👏👏 @ncetm.bsky.social #edusky #mathstoday
