Yup! The early Bonds are pretty zany, and for 3 films they just embraced it and went full parody! No one liked them cause they say the Connery films were more serious while featurng a man who could eat a car falling in love with a woman with braces and a guy who threw a hat.

I am someone who has both read the novel and has seen a large majority of the films, which seems to be where del Toro also sits. I see novel only folks yelling about frivolous additions that I catch as gothic Easter eggs. Anyone who says the man doesn't understand only has a limited scope.

I've struggled with the whole "no other name fits right, including my own" too for a long while. Haven't found an answer, just been thankful my legal is gender neutral.
