At the 1976 meeting of the Board, it was decided that a formal organization of a Society for Mathematical Psychology was desirable.
SMP presents an annual award for the most outstanding paper published in the Journal of Mathematical Psychology in the preceding three years. The award is named after R. Duncan Luce, recognizing his founding role in the field of mathematical psychology, in our Society, and in the journal.

Dynamic Field Theory postulates that cognitive processes share properties with sensory-motor processes that both emerge from the dynamics of neural populations with strong recurrent connectivity.
The goal of the workshop is to teach participants the principles of Dynamic Field Theory and provide hands-on experience building models that can be applied in their own research.
