I forgot over half of US state flags look like they were designed by committee in WordArt, with state seals, tiny text, and blue backgrounds that ensure they’re unreadable from any distance. https://usflags.design/

Everyone wants to see that upcoming Neil Diamond movie just for the moment when you can nudge your seatmate and say THAT’S the Caroline right there!

I must admit it’s weird for me to turn on HBO to watch a documentary and there’s my first cousin I grew up with next to Paul Anka.

My favorite running gag on the show Loot is how Molly the billionaire complains whenever something goes longer than expected into the night because "now I might only get 11 or 12 hours of sleep". As lovable of a character she is, I love that they double-down on her unrelatability with that joke […]

This is a long, painful first-person story from someone arrested by ICE and the brutal journey that follows. It’s cruelty from beginning to end. https://www.instagram.com/p/DR3aqaCEYS7/

I shipped my brother a gift, from Oregon to Southern California and it was supposed to get there in three days. After two days it was within 30mi of his house and then, it was in New York. Then Texas. Now Arizona. Supposed to show up tomorrow.

Oh Fedex the places you'll go!

For most of 2025 I've freelanced for a small company helping people rebuild their homes after a disaster.

I wrote up a summary of everything I learned over the past year after a lifetime of being a busy homeowner who never had to research this stuff before […]

Last year I drove a Kia EV6 but couldn't believe how bad the stereo sounded in a modern high-tech car.

TURNS OUT Kia probably wired thousands of these with the subwoofer in opposite phase, a fix you can make in a few minutes that makes them sound a zillion times better […]

today I learned Ben Folds married someone named Katie in 1996 but also somehow got divorced before the end of 1996 so my assumption is she's the subject of the 1997 Ben Folds Five song Kate, which is ironically about how wonderful she is?

Aw crap, I watched ONE video on how to do a card trick and now this is what YouTube looks like to me

Super interesting summary of recent Rapa Nui/Easter Island research:
1. Statues were carved and excavated all around the source volcano without hierarchy
2. The “walking” hypothesis of transporting statues using ropes/rocking was how they moved to final spots
3. Deforestation wasn’t done by […]

The new knives out is an amazing film but I must admit I enjoyed the first two more.

Every web nerd I know seems to be looking for a new domain registrar because whatever everyone's used for 10-20 years was likely bought up by private equity firms so they tripled their prices while slashing features.

Are there any ethical companies still doing cheap reliable domain hosting?

This week I had to sit through a Michael Jackson movie trailer about his life and I know there's a popular broadway show about MJ and again I'm asking who in the heck wants to see these things?

Are these cash grabs by his family to get something more out of a problematic dead guy's career that […]

jfc the new Knives Out 3 movie is only playing at 2 theaters this week across the entire state of Oregon. I’ll be driving an hour each way to catch a screening.

I guess all the major theater chains dotting every other town don’t want our ticket money.

I don’t mess with AI for images because they’re tedious and produce mostly ugly results but if I did, I’d ask one to make a photo of ICE agents arresting a bunch of kid animatronics from the It’s A Small World ride because it seems like a thing that might actually happen someday

Trans Day of Remembrance at Linfield University. Each sign describes a trans person who was killed in the last year, each flag represents suicides with the names of those lost on them. #tdor

Threads is the most unhinged social network. Meta pulls people out of their Facebook sewers into a spot they never would have been.

My main Threads stream is 50% friends posting updates about their life, 50% tradwife flatearthers telling me grocery store food is poison. It’s WILD.

Long ago I set my phone’s Siri to an Australian man’s voice, but it’s gotten really good lately. Now whenever I text my friends a yes/no question, then ask Siri to read their texted answer, it sometimes comes out as “Noooerrrrrr”

The Subway Take that resonated with me this year was that most shoes are designed poorly for our feet. I started wearing larger toe box shoes for the past few months and everything is now way more comfortable. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3j_Z0NllJ_I

The levels of this simulacrum are disturbing

It’s a Lego set of a thing from a movie
That only existed as special effects in the movie
But it’s Christmas
So the model of the thing from the movie that was never real is made of gingerbread.
But it’s actually all plastic
