It could also be since you mentioned the power cable was plugged in fully and it stopped meaning it might just be that power port is going bad since it has a bad ground unless plugged in a certain way

That was caused by the laptop trying to find a ground, it can be either caused by the screws not being screwed in all the way or if you had any water damage/moisture damage, like a steam room happen to it then the screw holes are where the moisture can pool and cause a shock since your the ground
