Time and again this happens: Dems refuse to fight, or fight in the most weak-kneed way possible, then construct a narrative where they actually lost the fight, which then becomes an excuse to not pursue future fights.

Democrats have been winning like crazy this year and over performing in nearly every election. His stance on Mamdani is frustrating to no end but the way progressives talk about Jeffries, it’s probably better if he doesn’t endorse Mamdani.

Mamdani has all the money he needs now.

I mean, imagine admitting, out loud, to an audience, "I wanted to destroy Medicaid until *my* family needed it."

I mean, maybe as a confessional -- confessing how broken & cruel you were, apologizing, seeking forgiveness. But that's not the tone! She's *proud* of it. She sees no problem!

This is insightful—a lot of Republicans will make claims like private sector charities or churches can step in as social service providers. They want that bc it’s a power dynamic—they decide who is worthy of their charity. A total Nightmare scenario in the hands of vengeful conservatives

Anyway, to summarize/conclude: this silly Sweeney cycle, wherein a largely imaginary lib backlash leads to weeks of everyone shitting on Dems, is the entire last decade of US politics in miniature. Dems are forced to answer for any & every rando that anyone can find online ...

Everyone gets what they want out of it:
1. The right gets to put Dems on the back foot again, forcing them to address nonsense designed to make them look bad.
2. The reactionary centrist media machine, awash in old-guy donor money, gets content.
3. Dem elites & consultants get to shit on the left.

The thing is, social media is vast. No matter what you say or do, you can find *someone* out there objecting to it on "woke" grounds. You just need to find two or three random comments, attribute the sentiment to "Democrats," & then demand that a bunch of Dems respond to it.

What I don’t understand, for the life of me, is that people do go out—millions of people!!—in cities all the time! They are out there having fun, going to clubs, going to concerts/restaurants/sports and other events. It’s safe!! People are safe in cities!!

Why is the narrative so poisoned??
