MassDEP has updated its Air Quality Forecast Regions map. This map is used by the national AirNow and EnviroFlash systems where MassDEP provides forecasts for Massachusetts, and the forecast regions are now better aligned with the National Weather Service public forecast zones.

Last week, #MassDEP announced the installation of 2 new air monitoring stations in #Framingham & #Saugus. These stations measure fine particulate matter (PM2.5) & black carbon. Data collected helps to inform regulatory updates & is available to the public: eeaonline.eea.state.ma.us/dep/massair/...

MassDEP recently celebrated the Marsh Island salt marsh restoration project with the Buzzards Bay Coalition. Phase 1 began 3 years ago & included excavation, grading, dewatering, and the creation of low marsh tidal creeks. Plus, there are walking trails along the marsh!

Over the past 4 years, we collaborated with the Mass Alternative Septic System Technology Center to better understand the effectiveness of various wastewater treatment methods. MassDEP’s Wall Experiment Station & the Office of Research and Standards visited to celebrate the completed project.

#ICYMI: MassDEP recently awarded $162,375 in Reduce, Reuse, Repair microgrants. These projects will enhance the state’s circular economy by reducing waste generation and prolonging the lifespan of products through donation, rescue, reuse and repair services.

280 municipalities and regional collaboratives across the state were awarded over $4 million in grants today. The Sustainable Materials Recovery Program (SMRP) boosts resiliency, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and makes it easier for residents to minimize waste.

MassDEP recently joined Wildlands Trust & Appalachian Mountain Club, Southeast Mass Chapter, with support from Brockton DPW, for a community litter cleanup at D.W. Field Park to keep the scenic park beautiful. Together, we gathered 30 bags — over 1,000 pounds — of litter! 🍂🗑️
