The forests there are a hot mess. If they were doing good environmental protection/preservation, you could at least consider their argument, but that is not at all the case. Every stretch of urban forest in that area is a full trees being slowly strangled by invasive vines.

I just don't get it. They barely maintain any of those parks, and it's hard to even imagine how a 10' wide strip of asphalt of the edge of a massive, lightly-used field would cause any environmental/preservation issues.

Every day this happens. @wmatagm.bsky.social keeps saying bus service is good, but actually riding the bus is a much different, more frustrating experience.
November 18, 2025 at 12:45 PM
For buses, I don't see it. Your own data says the percentage of planned bus trips that were actually delivered is at a 3 year low. Missed trips -> people standing around waiting for a no-show bus: late for work, school, appointments, etc. www.wmata.com/about/record... @wmatagm.bsky.social

Progress on MET Branch Trail up to Maple St SW. Now paved, but not fully striped. Rideable but not officially open.

Looking nice, @ddotdc.bsky.social

Anyone know the story behind this one-block stretch of protected #bikedc lane on Mass Ave between NJ Ave NW & 2nd St NW? It's only on the north side of the street.

Fascinating data & maps from NRDC. In DC,
67% of adults live in car-lite or car-free households
32% live in completely car-free households

This is entirely the result of density, transit, walkability, and bikeability.

I don't think what you're saying is unpopular, and it's very much in line with common practices in bike-friendly countries. bicycledutch.wordpress.com/2013/02/23/t...

Thanks for replying. Yes traffic is bad. However, every morning, we can tell if we're running late to our bus stop by watching for 2 buses passing by at the same time on the same route in the same direction. Every day. Same exact time. This is not a traffic issue.
October 8, 2025 at 8:08 PM
This is good, but what are you doing to improve bus service? I think few would say it's great (25% buses are either early or late and 3% never show at all), and it's steadily getting worse.

This is very important work. Thank you.

Also, it is still illegal to build affordable apartment buildings in the yellow areas on the map below. Addressing this would open up a lot more land to affordable housing development, reducing costs. plandc.dc.gov/sites/defaul...

You're right, but it's BOTH more buses, trains, e-bikes and compact cities AND electrifying everything else. At @itdp-hq.bsky.social we did a series of studies on this which put concrete numbers to the different scenarios. itdp.org/publication/...

What ADU densification it looks like. Homes over garages.
October 2, 2025 at 9:38 PM
ADUs can make a decent dent in housing production if done well. In LA they are now 1/3 of all new units.

@cmlewisgeorgew4.bsky.social why are protected bike lanes so scarce in Ward 4? How can I help move projects along faster?
September 25, 2025 at 7:40 PM
I think stadium subsidies are a horrible deal, and I agree that DC got screwed on this one, but it's hard to blame the council for making a deal that had +30 point support among voters. Someone has to convince the majority of people that these are a bad idea, and no one was successful at that task.

It appears he was arrested again from his apartment building today. LOTS of law enforcement. Maybe 20+ FBI, Marshalls, MPD, etc.
August 28, 2025 at 2:28 AM
Also, a lot of the BRTs there run express services using passing lanes at stations. These services are not possible with light rail, so the overall capacity will go down significantly and travel times will go up.
